Pediococcus pentosaceus, a future additive or probiotic candidate.

TL;DR: Pediococcus pentosaceus, a promising strain of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), is gradually attracting attention, leading to a rapid increase in experimental research as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metagenomics unveils microbial roles involved in metabolic network of flavor development in medium-temperature daqu starter.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the microbial metabolic network involved in flavor development in Asian starter cultures and found that Lactobacillales and Eurotiales were the potential predominant populations successively responsible for the production of lytic enzymes and flavor precursors/compounds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Contribution of microbial community to flavor formation in tilapia sausage during fermentation with Pediococcus pentosaceus

TL;DR: In this paper, the changes of volatile compounds and microbial community in the tilapia sausage during fermentation with Pediococcus pentosaceus were respectively studied by the headspace solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and 16S rRNA gene high-throughput sequencing.

Probiotic and related properties of a novel lactic acid bacteria strain isolated from fermented rose jam

TL;DR: In this article, 61 strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were isolated from ten spontaneously fermented rose jams and were screened through a series of in vitro probiotic tests, including resistance to low pH, bile salts, simulated gastric and simulated pancreatic digestion, as well as antibiotic susceptibility.

Trimmomatic: a flexible trimmer for Illumina sequence data

TL;DR: Timmomatic is developed as a more flexible and efficient preprocessing tool, which could correctly handle paired-end data and is shown to produce output that is at least competitive with, and in many cases superior to, that produced by other tools, in all scenarios tested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cytoscape: A Software Environment for Integrated Models of Biomolecular Interaction Networks

TL;DR: Several case studies of Cytoscape plug-ins are surveyed, including a search for interaction pathways correlating with changes in gene expression, a study of protein complexes involved in cellular recovery to DNA damage, inference of a combined physical/functional interaction network for Halobacterium, and an interface to detailed stochastic/kinetic gene regulatory models.

FLASH: Fast Length Adjustment of Short Reads to Improve Genome Assemblies

TL;DR: FLASH is a fast computational tool to extend the length of short reads by overlapping paired-end reads from fragment libraries that are sufficiently short and when FLASH was used to extend reads prior to assembly, the resulting assemblies had substantially greater N50 lengths for both contigs and scaffolds.
