TLDR
In this paper, a spectral emissions model was developed to derive the composition of the torus plasma as a function of radial distance, which is consistent with the value of κ = 2.

Kappa Distributions: Theory and Applications in Space Plasmas

TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarized and analyzed the various theories proposed for the Kappa distribution and their valuable applications in coronal and space plasmas, including the resonant and non-resonant wave.

Breit-Pauli Transition Probabilities and Electron Excitation Collision Strengths for Singly Ionized Sulfur

TL;DR: In this paper, the B-spline Breit-Pauli R-matrix method was used to estimate the collision strengths for the astrophysically important lines in S II and the effective collision strengths were obtained by averaging the electron collision strengths over a Maxwellian distribution of velocities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Exploring Transitions of Space Plasmas Out of Equilibrium

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors introduce the concept of entropic q-index, which is a measure of the thermodynamic distance of stationary states away from equilibrium, and show how the variation of temperature can be realized using an 'iso-metastability' procedure.

Observations of low‐frequency electromagnetic plasma waves upstream from the Martian shock

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed magnetic field data returned from Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) for signatures of electromagnetic plasma waves upstream from the Martian bow shock and found that left-hand polarized waves (0.04-0.10 Hz) observed near the local proton gyrofrequency (PCW) propagate at small to moderate angles to the magnetic field and have amplitudes that decrease with distance from Mars.

CHIANTI - an atomic database for emission lines - I. Wavelengths greater than 50 Å

TL;DR: The CHIANTI database as mentioned in this paper is a set of atomic data and transition probabilities necessary to calculate the emission line spectrum of astrophysical plasmas, including atomic energy levels, atomic radiative data such as wavelengths, weighted oscillator strengths and A values, and electron collisional excitation rates.

A survey of low-energy electrons in the evening sector of the magnetosphere with OGO 1 and OGO 3.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the low-energy electron population in the magnetosphere within the local time range ∼17 to ∼22 hours using the OGO 1 satellite and OGO 3.
