The condensed chromatin fiber: an allosteric chemo-mechanical machine for signal transduction and genome processing

TL;DR: It is argued that allosteric principles underlie and explain the functional architecture required for spacetime coordination of gene expression at all scales from DNA to the whole chromosome and that this functional architecture is provided by the chromatin fiber itself.

Nucleosomal Arrays Can Be Salt-Reconstituted on a Single-Copy MMTV Promoter DNA Template: Their Properties Differ in Several Ways from Those of Comparable 5S Concatameric Arrays†

TL;DR: Results show clearly that the nature of the underlying DNA template can affect the physical properties of nucleosomal arrays, and DNA sequence-directed differences in thePhysical properties of chromatin may have important consequences for functional processes such as gene regulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Unwrapping of DNA-protein complexes under external stretching.

TL;DR: The statics and dynamics of the unwrapping process by computer simulations and simple phenomenological theory are studied and are of relevance for experiments, which measure force-extension curves of DNA-protein complexes, such as nucleosome, using optical tweezers.

Histone mRNAs Do Not Accumulate during S Phase of either Mitotic or Endoreduplicative Cycles in the Chordate Oikopleura dioica

TL;DR: It is shown here that histone metabolism in the urochordate Oikopleura dioica does not accord with some key tenets of the replication-dependent/replacement variant paradigm.
Journal ArticleDOI

"Chromatomics" the analysis of the chromatome.

TL;DR: The term "chromatomics" is introduced for the systematic analysis of the DNA, RNA and protein content of the genetic material in the eukaryotic nucleus for a thorough investigation of changes in chromatin structure and function in response to environmental alterations.
