Multiple pseudouridine synthase activities for small nuclear RNAs.

TL;DR: The fact that 5-FU-containing snRNAs are potent inhibitors of psi formation in these pre-mRNA splicing cofactors raises the possibility that this is related to the cytotoxicity of fluoropyrimidines in cancer chemotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thyroid Hormone Receptors: Mechanisms of Transcriptional Regulation and Roles during Frog Development.

TL;DR: Independent of the exact mechanisms of action, the developmental expression of thyroid hormone receptor genes during amphibian metamorphosis suggests that both the repression and activation functions of the receptors are important for proper control of the temporal and tissue-specific regulation of metamorphotic.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structural elements of bulk chromatin within metaphase chromosomes

TL;DR: The results suggest that fibres are formed by the face-to-face association of 35-nm chromatin bodies, and multilayered plate-like structures observed in chromatin extruded from partially denatured compact metaphase chromosomes are the first time that these planar structures have been reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Designed transcription factors as structural, functional and therapeutic probes of chromatin in vivo

TL;DR: The potential applications of designed transcription factors as probes of mammalian chromatin‐based regulatory pathways and their potential for the therapy of human disease are evaluated, highlighting leukemia in particular.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tight correlation between inhibition of DNA repair in vitro and transcription factor IIIA binding in a 5S ribosomal RNA gene

TL;DR: Interestingly, three CPD sites within the ICR are repaired rapidly when TFIIIA is bound, while CPDs within ∼5 bases of these sites are repaired much more slowly, suggesting inefficient repair of transcription factor binding sites could increase mutation frequency in regulatory regions of genes.
