Fatigue damage evolution in thick composite laminates: Combination of X-ray tomography, acoustic emission and digital image correlation

TL;DR: In this article, a thorough experimental investigation of fatigue damage mechanisms and evolution in carbon/epoxy laminate subjected to bending load is presented, which makes it possible to identify, quantify and locate them precisely and therefore, to identify the physical origin of residual strength decrease and acoustic emissions.
Journal ArticleDOI

An experimental investigation of the mechanical behavior and damage of thick laminated carbon/epoxy composite

TL;DR: In this article, the mechanical behavior and damage of a laminated carbon/epoxy composite are investigated through static and fatigue three-point bending tests, and three non-destructive evaluation and monitoring techniques are used.

Characterization of elastic constants of anisotropic composites in compression using digital image correlation

TL;DR: In this article, a simple direct technique to determine a broad set of elastic moduli is presented based on compression testing of a prism sample, which is used to measure the full-field deformations that allow the determination of Young's moduli and all six Poisson's ratios for the three orthogonal directions based on a single sample.

Wave mode extraction from multimodal wave signals in an orthotropic composite plate.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that S0 mode can be extracted very well from the signal but A0 mode with slightly poorer accordance with the original waveforms and numerical predictions.

A two-dimensional Fourier transform method for the measurement of propagating multimode signals

TL;DR: In this article, a two-dimensional Fourier transform (2D FFT) was used to measure the amplitudes and velocities of the Lamb waves propagating in a plate, the output of the transform being presented using an isometric projection which gives a three-dimensional view of the wave-number dispersion curves.

Micro-Genetic Algorithms For Stationary And Non-Stationary Function Optimization

TL;DR: In this article, a small population approach (coined as Micro-Genetic Algorithms--μGA) with some very simple genetic parameters was explored and it was shown that,μGA implementation reaches the near-optimal region much earlier than the SGA implementation.
