Book ChapterDOI
Information transfer in cells infected by RNA tumor viruses and extension to human neoplasia.
TL;DR: This chapter focuses on the molecular studies and attempts to interpret and correlate recent findings that bring us to a working model for RNA tumor viruses origin, evolution, function, and especially their relationship to neoplasia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Partial Transcription of Murine Type C Viral Genomes in BALB/c Cell Lines
TL;DR: The mouse cell line, BALB/c 3T3, and its derivatives transformed either spontaneously or by treatment with a variety of external agents, were analyzed for cytoplasmic RNA complementary to DNA products prepared from the Kirsten strain of murine sarcoma-leukemia virus, and from an endogenous type C virus of BALB-3T3.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nucleotides at the RNA-DNA covalent bonds formed in the endogenous reaction by the avian myeloblastosis virus DNA polymerase.
Rolf M. Flügel,Robert D. Wells +1 more
TL;DR: At least two DNA molecules are formed in the AMV endogenous reaction, and dTMP and dGMP apparently do not serve as the first deoxynucleotides at the RNADNA junction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Initiation sites of Rous sarcoma virus RNA-directed DNA synthesis in vitro.
TL;DR: Rous sarcoma virus DNA synthesis in disrupted virions is initiated mainly at a site about 200 nucleotides or less from the 5′ terminus, but other initiation sites throughout the RNA seem to be used as well.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deoxyribonucleic Acid Polymerase(s) of Rous Sarcoma Virus: Effects of Virion-Associated Endonuclease on the Enzymatic Product
TL;DR: Attempts to detect virion-associated deoxyribonuclease, by using a variety of double helical DNA species as substrates, have been unsuccessful, but small amounts of nuclease activity directed against single-stranded DNA may be present in purified virus.

Viral RNA-dependent DNA Polymerase: RNA-dependent DNA Polymerase in Virions of RNA Tumour Viruses
TL;DR: Two independent groups of investigators have found evidence of an enzyme in virions of RNA tumour viruses which synthesizes DNA from an RNA template, apparently the classical process of information transfer from DNA to RNA can be inverted.
Journal ArticleDOI
RNA-dependent DNA polymerase in virions of Rous sarcoma virus.
Howard M. Temin,Satoshi Mizutani +1 more
TL;DR: Viral RNA-dependent DNA Polymerase: RNA- dependent DNA polymerase in Virions of Rous Sarcoma Virus and its role in cell reprograming is studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Formation and properties of RNA-DNA complexes*
A.P. Nygaard,B.D. Hall +1 more
TL;DR: The rate of formation of complexes between T2 RNA and T2 DNA has been measured at various salt concentrations and temperatures and the resistance to RNase increased with increasing salt concentration but was not complete under any condition tested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of the products of DNA-directed DNA polymerases in oncogenic RNA viruses.
TL;DR: Several RNA tumour viruses contain an enzyme that synthesizes a DNA–RNA hybrid using the single stranded viral RNA as template, and hybridization experiments confirm that the DNA strand is complementary to the viral RNA.
