TLDR
In this article, a system of chemical reactions has been developed which permits the controlled growth of spherical silica particles of uniform size by means of hydrolysis of alkyl silicates and subsequent condensation of silicic acid in alcoholic solutions.

Self-templating Scheme for the Synthesis of Nanostructured Transition-Metal Chalcogenide Electrodes for Capacitive Energy Storage

TL;DR: In this article, a self-templating strategy was used to fabricate single and double-shell NiCo2S4 hollow spheres, as a promising electrode material for pseudocapacitors, which resulted in a high specific capacitance (1263 F g −1 at 2 A g − 1), remarkable rate performance (75.3% retention of initial capacitance from 2 to 60 A g−1), and exceptional reversibility with a cycling efficiency of 93.8% and 87% after 10,000 and 20,000 cycles, respectively, at a

Adsorption and Desorption Behaviors of DNA with Magnetic Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles

TL;DR: A type of mesoporous silica nanoparticle that has a Fe(3)O(4) inner core and mesoporus silica shell is synthesized that offers a convenient platform to manipulate the DNA adsorption and desorption processes as it can be easily separated from solution by applying a magnetic field.

Nearly Monodisperse Tungstate MWO4 Microspheres (M = Pb, Ca): Surfactant-Assisted Solution Synthesis and Optical Properties

TL;DR: In this paper, nearly monodisperse microspheres of tetragonal tungstate (MWO4, M = Pb, Ca) composed of subunits with different shapes have been found to be sensitive to reaction conditions and could be tuned by controlling the reaction conditions.

Water‐Stable, Magnetic Silica–Cobalt/Cobalt Oxide–Silica Multishell Submicrometer Spheres

TL;DR: In this paper, a method to produce monodisperse magnetic composite spheres with diameters from less than 100nm to more than 1μm in water solution is reported, consisting of a dielectric silica core and a cobalt/cobalt oxide shell which can be protected from further oxidation with an outer shell of silica or, alternatively, they can be covered with the polymer polyvinylpyrrolidone as a stabilizer.

Stochastic nanoroughness modulates neuron–astrocyte interactions and function via mechanosensing cation channels

TL;DR: The finding that regions of amyloid plaque buildup in Alzheimer’s involve changes to tissue nanoroughness provides a link between nanoscale physical cues and loss of function in neurons and may have implications in uncovering the factors that promote neurodegenerative diseases.

Electron Microscopy of Monodisperse Latexes

TL;DR: In this article, a series of monodisperse polystyrene latexes has been prepared by carefully controlled emulsion polymerizations. The particle diameters of three of these latexes were determined by electron microscopy.
