TLDR
In this article, a system of chemical reactions has been developed which permits the controlled growth of spherical silica particles of uniform size by means of hydrolysis of alkyl silicates and subsequent condensation of silicic acid in alcoholic solutions.About:

Conducting polymer composites
TL;DR: In this article, an electrically conducting polypyrrole coatings on inorganic cores were obtained by deposition of pyrrole on catalytically active particles, where the degree of polymer coverage could be controlled by varying the aging time and the properties of the carrier particles.

A synthetic nanomaterial for virus recognition produced by surface imprinting.
Alessandro Cumbo,Alessandro Cumbo,Bernard Lorber,Philippe F.-X. Corvini,Philippe F.-X. Corvini,Wolfgang Meier,Patrick Shahgaldian +6 more
TL;DR: A synthetic strategy to produce organic/inorganic nanoparticulate hybrids that recognize non-enveloped icosahedral viruses in water at concentrations down to the picomolar range is described.

Photothermal heterogeneous oxidation of ethanol over Pt/TiO2
James C. Kennedy,Abhaya K. Datye +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the photothermal synergistic enhancement of CO-sub 2 production appears to be caused primarily by gas phase transport of intermediates between the two catalyst phases in a mixed series-parallel kinetic pathway.
Preparation of spherical silica nanoparticles: Stober silica
Mohamed A. Sharaf,A. A. F. Zikry +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the effect of TEOS and NH3 concentrations on particle size of silica nanoparticles and showed that the size of the particles increases with increasing TEOS/NH3 concentrations where both the rate of hydrolysis and condensation become faster and affect on the solubility of intermediate (Si (OC2H5)4-X(OH)X) and hence affect on supersaturation for the nucleation process.

Controlled Fabrication of Gold-Coated 3D Ordered Colloidal Crystal Films and Their Application in Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy
Lehui Lu,Igor Randjelovic,Richard Karel Capek,Nikolai Gaponik,Jianhui Yang,and Hongjie Zhang,Alexander Eychmüller +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an alternative procedure to incorporate gold nanoparticles into 3D ordered colloidal crystal film was proposed, which can be used as SERS substrates, exhibiting excellent enhancement ability.

Electron Microscopy of Monodisperse Latexes
E. B. Bradford,J. W. Vanderhoff +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a series of monodisperse polystyrene latexes has been prepared by carefully controlled emulsion polymerizations. The particle diameters of three of these latexes were determined by electron microscopy.
