Reactive oxygen species impact on sperm DNA and its role in male infertility.

TL;DR: How OS induces DNA damage and the types of DNA damage that can occur are discussed and the clinical consequences of OS‐induced DNA damage are briefly touched on.

Effect of B vitamins and genetics on success of in-vitro fertilisation : prospective cohort study. Commentary

TL;DR: In women likely to have a successful IVF pregnancy, high folate status increases the likelihood of twin birth after multiple embryo transfer, and the findings suggest that MTHFR genotype is linked to a woman's potential to produce healthy embryos.

Nicotinamide and Demographic and Disease transitions: Moderation is Best

TL;DR: Nicotinamide deficiency is an overlooked diagnosis in poor cereal-dependant economies masquerading as 'environmental enteropathy' or physical and cognitive stunting as mentioned in this paper.Good health and rapid progress depend on an optimal dose of nicotinamide.

Nicotinamide as Independent Variable for Intelligence, Fertility, and Health: Origin of Human Creative Explosions?

TL;DR: It is speculated that a fertility crisis and population bottleneck around 40 000 years ago was overcome by Homo (but not the Neanderthals) by concerted dietary change plus profertility genes and intense sexual selection culminating in behaviourally modern Homo sapiens.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dietary patterns and outcomes of assisted reproduction.

TL;DR: Higher pretreatment adherence to the profertility diet was associated with an increased probability of live birth among women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies, and common recommended dietary advice may not provide the most appropriate guidance for women undergoing infertility treatment in the United States.

Mice lacking the vitamin D receptor exhibit impaired bone formation, uterine hypoplasia and growth retardation after weaning

TL;DR: It is reported here that in VDR null mutant mice, no defects in development and growth were observed before weaning, irrespective of reduced expression of vitamin D target genes, which establishes a critical role for VDR in growth, bone formation and female reproduction in the post-weaning stage.

Implantation and the survival of early pregnancy.

TL;DR: This review summarizes current information about these steps, including some of the molecular mechanisms that mediate them and how they may go awry, with consequent loss of the pregnancy.

Targeted ablation of the 25-hydroxyvitamin D 1α-hydroxylase enzyme: Evidence for skeletal, reproductive, and immune dysfunction

TL;DR: A critical role for the 1α(OH)ase enzyme is established in mineral and skeletal homeostasis as well as in female reproduction and also point to an important role in regulating immune function.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antioxidants for male subfertility

TL;DR: This Cochrane review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of oral supplementation with antioxidants for subfertile male partners in couples seeking fertility assistance with a placebo, no treatment or another antioxidant.
