Abstract
This article assesses the consequences of poverty between a child’s prenatal year and 5th birthday for several adult achievement, health, and behavior outcomes, measured as late as age 37. Using data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (1,589) and controlling for economic conditions in middle childhood and adolescence, as well as demographic conditions at the time of the birth, findings indicate statistically significant and, in some cases, quantitatively large detrimental effects of early poverty on a number of attainment-related outcomes (adult earnings and work hours). Early-childhood poverty was not associated with such behavioral measures as out-of-wedlock childbearing and arrests. Most of the adult earnings effects appear to operate through early poverty’s association with adult work hours.

The Social Psychology of Stress, Health, and Coping

TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarize key theoretical perspectives that frame social psychological research on stress and health, as well as limitations associated with these approaches, and highlight gender, race, SES and life course differences regarding the prevalence and nature of stress, coping resources and stress outcomes.

The Long Reach of Early Childhood Poverty

TL;DR: This article found that early poverty has substantial detrimental effects on school achievement, adult earnings, and work hours, but on neither general adult health nor such behavioral outcomes as out-of-wedlock childbearing and arrests.

Multi-generational income disadvantage and the educational attainment of young adults

TL;DR: This article examined the association between intergenerational socio-economic mobility and young adult outcomes and found some evidence that, conditional on young adults' own adolescent conditions, the adolescent conditions of their parents influence their household environment and by extension their educational attainment.

The role of household chaos in understanding relations between early poverty and children's academic achievement.

TL;DR: Results revealed that, in the presence of household disorganization (but not instability) and relevant covariates, income poverty was no longer directly related to academic achievement, and was positively related to household Disorganization, which was, in turn, associated with lower academic achievement.

Life Course Pathways From Adverse Childhood Experiences to Adult Physical Health: A Structural Equation Model.

TL;DR: Findings indicate that stress process roles in eroding physical health and experience of wellness are an important strategy toward reducing preventable health problems.

Epigenetic programming by maternal behavior.

TL;DR: It is shown that an epigenomic state of a gene can be established through behavioral programming, and it is potentially reversible, suggesting a causal relation among epigenomicState, GR expression and the maternal effect on stress responses in the offspring.

From Neurons to Neighborhoods: The Science of Early Childhood Development

TL;DR: From Neurons to Neighborhoods as discussed by the authors presents the evidence about "brain wiring" and how children learn to learn to speak, think, and regulate their behavior, and examines the effect of the climate-family, child care, community-within which the child grows.
