Effects of Secondary Metal Carbonate Addition on the Porous Character of Resorcinol–Formaldehyde Xerogels

TL;DR: It was found that the combined catalyst composition is crucial in determining the end properties of the xerogels via its effect on growth of clusters involved in formation of the gel network, and evidence of pore size tunability while maintaining ionic strength is shown, which significantly increases the potential of such systems for biological applications.

Tortuosity of the porous structure of carbon gels

TL;DR: In this paper, the porosity of carbon gels with different combinations of synthesis variables has been analyzed and it has been shown that an increase in the amount of water or a suitable combination of methanol content and the pH of the precursor solution used for the polymerization process generated less tortuous pore structures.

Organic aerogels from the polycondensation of resorcinol with formaldehyde

TL;DR: In this paper, the polycondensation of resorcinol with formaldehyde under alkaline conditions results in the formation of surface functionalized polymer "clusters" which are processed under supercritical conditions to obtain low density, organic aerogels.
