Textural and mechanical characteristics of carbon aerogels synthesized by polymerization of resorcinol and formaldehyde using alkali carbonates as basification agents.

TL;DR: Five organic aerogels were prepared simultaneously by polycondensation of resorcinol and formaldehyde using different alkali carbonates (M(2)CO(3), M = Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs) as basification agents to study the porosity and microporosity of the samples.

Evolution of mechanical properties and final textural properties of resorcinol-formaldehyde xerogels during ambient air drying

TL;DR: In this article, the shrinkage behavior and the mechanical properties of carbon xerogels obtained with R/C ratio ranging from 300 to 1500 were investigated, and it was shown that the smaller the ratio, the higher shrinkage, the stiffening, and the viscoelastic character of the xerogs.

Sulfurized carbon xerogels as Pt support with enhanced activity for fuel cell applications

TL;DR: In this paper, highly mesoporous carbon xerogels (CXGs) have been subjected to a sulfurization process with elemental sulfur, and the insertion of S into the carbon matrix does not compromise their mesophorous structure.

Rheological determination of the sol-gel transition during the aqueous synthesis of resorcinol-formaldehyde resins

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the sol-gel transition of organic gels prepared by polycondensation of resorcinol (R ) with formaldehyde (F ) in presence of sodium carbonate (C ) at a single frequency.

Organic aerogels from the polycondensation of resorcinol with formaldehyde

TL;DR: In this paper, the polycondensation of resorcinol with formaldehyde under alkaline conditions results in the formation of surface functionalized polymer "clusters" which are processed under supercritical conditions to obtain low density, organic aerogels.
