Factors Influencing Environmental Attitudes and Behaviors: A U.K. Case Study of Household Waste Management
TLDR
In this paper, three waste management behaviors (waste reduction, reuse, and recycling) were examined with the use of a conceptual framework developed by the author and tested in a self-report questionnaire of 673 residents of Exeter, UK.Abstract:
Three waste management behaviors (waste reduction, reuse, and recycling) were examined with the use of a conceptual framework developed by the author. It was posited that environmental values, situational characteristics, and psychological factors all play a significant role in the prediction of waste management behavior, within the context of a core intention-behavior relationship. The framework was tested in a self-report questionnaire of 673 residents of Exeter, UK. It was found that the predictors of reduction, reuse, and recycling behavior differed significantly, with reduction and reuse being predicted by underlying environmental values, knowledge, and concern-based variables. Recycling behavior was, in contrast, characterized as highly normative behavior. The use of the approach taken for investigating other environmental behaviors is examined.read more

Sorting out food waste behaviour: A survey on the motivators and barriers of self-reported amounts of food waste in households
TL;DR: In this article, the authors conducted a large mail survey in Switzerland to investigate which determinants explain the self-reported amount of food waste in households, taking into account personal norms, knowledge, household planning habits and the good provider identity.

Social influence in the theory of planned behaviour: The role of descriptive, injunctive, and in‐group norms
TL;DR: There was support for the social identity approach to attitude-behaviour relations in that group norms predicted recycling intentions, particularly for individuals who identified strongly with the group.

The theory of planned behavior
TL;DR: Ajzen, 1985, 1987, this article reviewed the theory of planned behavior and some unresolved issues and concluded that the theory is well supported by empirical evidence and that intention to perform behaviors of different kinds can be predicted with high accuracy from attitudes toward the behavior, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control; and these intentions, together with perceptions of behavioral control, account for considerable variance in actual behavior.

Normative Influences on Altruism
TL;DR: In this paper, a theoretical model of personal normative influences on altruism is presented, which suggests that altruistic behavior is causally influenced by feelings of moral obligation to act on one's personally held norms.
