TLDR
In this article, the larvae of a high fat containing insect, black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) (BSFL), was evaluated for biodiesel production, where the larvae were grown on organic wastes for 10 days and used for crude fat extraction by petroleum ether.

Model selection for waste conversion efficiency and energy demands in a pilot for large-scale larvae treatment

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated models for predicting larvae mass gain in the conversion process, food waste degradation due to larval and microbial activity, heat production based on metabolic activity, and compared to the demand for water removal for achieving a minimal total solids content (50%) in the treatment residue for easy larvae separation by sieving.

Comparison and Selection of Saprophagous Diptera Species for Poultry Manure Conversion

TL;DR: The most promising species for use in a conversion system was M. domestica and the presence of C. hirtula and the ideal initial conditions were: 77.5% moisture, 2.9cm deep and 0.82g eggs/kg manure.

Food waste to bio-energy through anaerobic digestion under different management scenarios

TL;DR: In this article, the interconnection of biotechnological processes in the co-production of bio-fuels and bio-products represents a key strategy aimed at maximising the utilisation of food waste and raising the potential income of the entire bioprocess chain.

Life Tables of Hermetia illucens (Linnaeus, 1758) (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) on Different Foods

TL;DR: The longest and the shortest development time of H. illucens from egg to adult were found on Yoghurt and Corn flour, respectively, and the highest mortality rate was found as 94.8% on Corn meal, while the lowest mortality Rate was calculated as 65.8%" on Banana.

Nutrient Composition of Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens)

TL;DR: Tests with animals generally show none of the positive effects of replacing standard diets with BSF on the health of the animal and features of the meat, and the nutritional value of BSF or BSF meal is reviewed, which can be used as a whole or partial replacement of soybean meal and fish meal in animal feeds.

Combustion of fat and vegetable oil derived fuels in diesel engines

TL;DR: In this paper, the status of fat and oil derived diesel fuels with respect to fuel properties, engine performance, and emissions is reviewed, and it is concluded that the price of the feedstock fat or oil is the major factor determining biodiesel price.

Renewable energy consumption, CO2 emissions and oil prices in the G7 countries

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present and estimate an empirical model of renewable energy consumption for the G7 countries and show that in the long term, increases in real GDP per capita and CO2 per capita are major drivers behind per capita renewable energy usage.
