TLDR
In this article, the first images and the first spectrum obtained with a home-built near field optical microscope in the mid-infrared range were obtained with two intense infrared light sources: a cascade arc and the free electron laser CLIO for the time being, the spatial resolution is of the order of λ/4 (namely one micron).

Near-field probing of vibrational absorption for chemical microscopy

TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrate the use of the apertureless approach to scan near field optical microscopy to obtain contrast in vibrational absorption on a scale of about 100 nanometres, about one-hundredth of a wavelength.
Journal ArticleDOI

Scanning near-field optical microscopy with aperture probes: Fundamentals and applications

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the fundamentals of scanning near-field optical microscopy with aperture probes, including instrumentation and probe fabrication, aspects of light propagation in metal-coated, tapered optical fibers, and field distributions in the vicinity of subwavelength apertures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Near-field surface-enhanced Raman imaging of dye-labeled DNA with 100-nm resolution

TL;DR: The presented data show a lateral dependence of the Raman signals that points to special surface sites with particularly high SERS enhancement, which is of general importance to correct for topographic coupling that often occurs in near-field optical imaging.
Journal ArticleDOI

Radon emanation and electric potential variations associated with transient deformation near reservoir lakes

TL;DR: In this article, electric potential variations, radon emanation and deformation measurements recorded since 1995 in the French Alps in the vicinity of two artificial lakes which have strong seasonal variations in water level of more than 50 metres.
Journal ArticleDOI

Near-field surface-enhanced raman spectroscopy of dye molecules adsorbed on silver island films

TL;DR: In this article, the combined use of scanning near-field optical microscopy and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) was used to obtain spectral, spatial and chemical information of molecular adsorbates with subwavelength lateral resolution.

New form of scanning optical microscopy.

TL;DR: The exponential decay of the evanescent field due to the total internal reflection (TIR) of a light beam in a prism is used to advantage in a new form of scanning optical microscope, the photon scanning tunneling microscope (PSTM).
Journal ArticleDOI

Scanning tunneling optical microscopy

TL;DR: In this article, the evanescent field lying on the surface of a guiding structure is detected by means of a dielectric probe, which can then be used for determining the topography of the object.
Journal ArticleDOI

Collection mode near‐field scanning optical microscopy

TL;DR: In this paper, a collection mode near-field scanning optical microscopy was used to obtain super-resolution images of aluminum lines separated by 0.25 μm with peak edge sharpness of 0.07 μm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recovery from hemophilia B Leyden: an androgen-responsive element in the factor IX promoter

TL;DR: This work has shown that the improvement seen in patients with the -20 mutation and the failure of the -26 patient to recover are related to the same mutation.
