Influence of Trypanosoma evansi in blood, plasma, and brain cholinesterase of experimentally infected cats.

TLDR
The infection by T. evansi influenced cholinesterases of felines indicating changes in the responses of the cholinergic system.

Food web connections and the transmission cycles of Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma evansi (Kinetoplastida, Trypanosomatidae) in the Pantanal Region, Brazil

TL;DR: It is proposed that transmission of T. cruzi and T. evansi in the southern Pantanal region takes place via an intricate ecological trophic network involving generalist and specialist mammal species that are linked through a robust food-web connection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Trypanosoma evansi: cholinesterase activity in acutely infected Wistar rats.

TL;DR: Reductions in the activity of cholinesterase occur in acute infection by T. evansi in rats and this demonstrates an important change occurring in animals infected by the protozoan and may indicate a potential role the enzymes play in the mechanism of disease.

Plasma cholinesterase variants and the anaesthetist.

TL;DR: Biochemical properties of plasma cholinesterase of significance to the anaesthetist are reviewed and three new drugs are developed that target these properties.

Acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase as possible markers of low-grade systemic inflammation.

TL;DR: Plasma levels of C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and lipid peroxides are high whereas those of endothelial nitric oxide are low in insulin resistance, obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperlipidemias, metabolic syndrome X, and Alzheimer's disease suggesting that these diseases are characterized by low-grade systemic inflammation.

Effects of early undernutrition on kinetic parameters of brain acetylcholinesterase from adult rats.

TL;DR: It is suggested that early undernutrition changes AChE concentration in cerebellum and striatum and does not affect the affinity of the enzyme for the substrate.

Investigations on naturally occurring Trypanosoma evansi infections in horses, cattle, dogs and capybaras (Hydrochaeris hydrochaeris) in Pantanal de Poconé (Mato Grosso, Brazil)

TL;DR: Clinical and parasitological findings support the possible role of the capybara as a reservoir host of T.evansi, dogs and cattle--due to their close contact with horses--should rather be regarded as efficient reservoir hosts for Mal de Cadeiras in the study area.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antisense oligonucleotide inhibition of acetylcholinesterase gene expression induces progenitor cell expansion and suppresses hematopoietic apoptosis ex vivo

TL;DR: The findings suggest that the hematopoietic role of acetylcholinesterase, anticipated to be inverse to the observed antisense effects, is to reduce proliferation of the multipotent stem cells committed to erythropoiesis and megakaryocytopoiesi and macrophage production and to promote apoptosis in their progeny.
