Knapsack problems with sigmoid utilities: Approximation algorithms via hybrid optimization

TLDR
This work forms versions of the knapsack problem, the generalized assignment problem and the bin-packing problem with sigmoid utilities, and merges approximation algorithms from discrete optimization with algorithms from continuous optimization to develop approximation algorithms for these NP-hard problems with sigmaoid utilities.

Dose-optimal vaccine allocation over multiple populations

TL;DR: It is proved that the herd effect is in general convex‐concave in the vaccination fraction and give precise conditions on the epidemic for the convex part to arise, and the crucial importance of the dose‐optimal coverage is shown.

Human Supervisory Control of Robotic Teams: Integrating Cognitive Modeling with Engineering Design

TL;DR: This article focuses on the design of systems in which a human operator is responsible for overseeing autonomous agents and providing feedback based on sensor data, and how the input provided by the operator is used by automated systems.

Optimal spares allocation to an exchangeable-item repair system with tolerable wait

TL;DR: This work generalizes the expected waiting time and fill rate measures to reflect customer patience and develops efficient algorithms to solve the problem for each of the criteria and demonstrates how incorporating customer patience provides considerable savings and profoundly affects the optimal spares allocation.

Online multi-resource allocation for deadline sensitive jobs with partial values in the cloud

TL;DR: This paper develops efficient online multi-resource allocation algorithms that achieve low competitive ratios for both continuous and discrete job models and studies the problem of online scheduling for deadline-sensitive jobs with concave utility functions that can deliver partial results.

Mathematical Optimization in Vaccine Allocation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyze three decision problems in the field of vaccine allocation: the allocation of a limited vaccine stockpile to fight a sudden outbreak, allocation of prepandemic vaccines in an age-structured population and allocation of limited budget over multiple vaccine types.
