TLDR
This critical review describes the latest developments in the sensitization of near-infrared luminescence, "soft" luminescent materials (liquid crystals, ionic liquids, ionogels), electroluminescentmaterials for organic light emitting diodes, with emphasis on white light generation, and applications in luminecent bio-sensing and bio-imaging based on time-resolved detection and multiphoton excitation.Abstract:
Recent startling interest for lanthanide luminescence is stimulated by the continuously expanding need for luminescent materials meeting the stringent requirements of telecommunication, lighting, electroluminescent devices, (bio-)analytical sensors and bio-imaging set-ups. This critical review describes the latest developments in (i) the sensitization of near-infrared luminescence, (ii) “soft” luminescent materials (liquid crystals, ionic liquids, ionogels), (iii) electroluminescent materials for organic light emitting diodes, with emphasis on white light generation, and (iv) applications in luminescent bio-sensing and bio-imaging based on time-resolved detection and multiphoton excitation (500 references).read more

TL;DR: A detailed solvent-dependent photophysical study indicates that this luminescence quenching is not due to the direct coordination of O-H vibrators to the metal center but to the increase of nonradiative processes in a protic solvent induced by an internal isomerization equilibrium.

Photophysical Studies of Europium Coordination Polymers Based on a Tetracarboxylate Ligand
TL;DR: The triplet state of ligand H4ptptc matches well with the emission level of Eu(III) ion, which allows the preparation of new optical materials with enhanced luminescence properties and is studied in terms of their emission quantum yields, emission lifetimes, and the radiative/nonradiative rates.

Intercalation of organic sensitisers into layered europium hydroxide and enhanced luminescence property
TL;DR: Two organic sensitisers 4-biphenylcarboxylate and terephthalate were intercalated into the gallery of layered europium hydroxide and PL spectra tests indicated that BPC markedly enhanced the red luminescence of Eu(3+) due to efficient energy transfer between BPC and EU(3+), forming a contrast to intercalation TA and the starting NO(3)(-) anions in the gallery.

Two-Photon Laser Scanning Fluorescence Microscopy
TL;DR: The fluorescence emission increased quadratically with the excitation intensity so that fluorescence and photo-bleaching were confined to the vicinity of the focal plane as expected for cooperative two-photon excitation.

Upconversion and Anti-Stokes Processes with f and d Ions in Solids
TL;DR: Before the 1960s, all anti-Stokes emissions, which were known to exist, involved emission energies in excess of excitation energies by only a few kT and were linked to thermal population of energy states above excitation states by such an energy amount.
