TLDR
Systemic hypertension and physical exercise are both associated with cardiac adaptations and structural and functional cardiac changes seen in hypertensive and athlete's hearts are reviewed.Abstract:
Systemic hypertension and physical exercise are both associated with cardiac adaptations. The impact is most prominent on the left side of the heart, which hypertrophies leading to left ventricular hypertrophy. This article reviews structural and functional cardiac changes seen in hypertensive and athlete's hearts.read more

Exercise and cardiac health: physiological and molecular insights.
TL;DR: A comprehensive review of the cardiac effects of physical activity is provided, beginning with a brief history of exercise in cardiovascular medicine and then discussing seminal work on the physiological effects of Exercise in healthy, diseased and aged hearts.

Association of Arsenic Exposure With Cardiac Geometry and Left Ventricular Function in Young Adults.
G. Pichler,Maria Grau-Perez,Maria Grau-Perez,Maria Tellez-Plaza,Maria Tellez-Plaza,Jason G. Umans,Lyle G. Best,Shelley A. Cole,Walter Goessler,Kevin A. Francesconi,Jonathan D. Newman,Josep Redon,Richard B. Devereux,Ana Navas-Acien +13 more
TL;DR: Arsenic exposure was related to an increase in LV wall thickness and LV hypertrophy in young American Indians with a low burden of cardiovascular risk factors, suggesting that potential cardiotoxic effects of arsenic might be more pronounced in individuals already undergoing cardiovascular adaptive mechanisms following elevated systemic blood pressure.

Metabolic profiling of elite athletes with different cardiovascular demand

TL;DR: This first most comprehensive metabolic profiling of elite athletes provides evidence that athletes with different CD show a unique metabolic signature that reflects energy generation and oxidative stress and potentially places the high CD group at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease.

Left ventricular hypertrophy in middle-aged endurance athletes: is it blood pressure related?
Łukasz A. Małek,Anna Czajkowska,Anna Mróz,Katarzyna Witek,Marzena Barczuk-Falęcka,Dariusz Nowicki,Marek Postuła,Konrad Werys +7 more
TL;DR: It is found that interventricular septal diameter is increased in athletes with high-normal resting BP, but not in those with optimal or normal BP, and this finding is accompanied by significantly higher left and right ventricular mass index and larger left atrial area in the first group.

Level of Physical Activity, Left Ventricular Mass, Hypertension, and Prognosis

TL;DR: Level of physical activity was associated with better prognosis independent of whether left ventricular hypertrophy was present or not, whereas this association was not present among persons with hypertension.
