TLDR
Three-dimensional switching field measurements performed on a 3 nm cobalt cluster embedded in a niobium matrix are reported, able to separate the different magnetic anisotropy contributions and evidence the dominating role of the cluster surface.Abstract:
Using a new micro-SQUID setup, we investigate magnetic anisotropy in a single 1000-atom cobalt cluster. This system opens new fields in the characterization and understanding of the origin of magnetic anisotropy in such nanoparticles. For this purpose, we report three-dimensional switching field measurements performed on a 3 nm cobalt cluster embedded in a niobium matrix. We are able to separate the different magnetic anisotropy contributions and evidence the dominating role of the cluster surface.read more

Characterization of Superconducting Thin Films and nanoSQUIDs for Nanoparticle Investigation at High Magnetic Field
Roberto Russo,E. Di Gennaro,E. Esposito,Alessio Crescitelli,Dino Fiorani,Carmine Granata,Antonio Vettoliere,R. Cristiano,M. Lisitskiy,Davide Peddis +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a nanoSQUID based on very thin niobium film was fabricated and measured in high magnetic field parallel to the film plane, and the results indicated that Niobium thin films are superconducting at high field; however, the passivation layers are not sufficient to avoid a degradation of super-conducting properties when cycled between room and cryogenic temperatures.

Effect of surface anisotropy on the hysteretic properties of a magnetic particle
Mihai Dimian,Hamid Kachkachi +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of surface anisotropy on the zero-temperature hysteretic properties of a small single-domain magnetic particle was studied and an estimation of the anisotropic constant for which deviations from the Stoner-Wohlfarth model are observed.
