Methods in carbon K-edge NEXAFS: Experiment and analysis

TLDR
In this paper, a unified, systematic approach to the collection and quantitative analysis of NEXAFS data with a particular focus upon carbon K-edge spectra is presented, revealing the inherent assumptions of each approach and providing guidelines for assessing their appropriateness in broad range of experimental situations.

Spatial complexity of soil organic matter forms at nanometre scales

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used synchrotron-based near-edge X-ray spectromicroscopy of entire and intact free microaggregates to demonstrate that highly variable yet identifiable organic matter forms, such as plant or microbial biopolymers, can be found in soils at distinct locations of the mineral assemblage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Morphology characterization in organic and hybrid solar cells

TL;DR: The morphology of the active layer is of paramount importance in the photon to electron conversion process in organic and hybrid solar cells, with all length scales, from molecular ordering to intradevice composition variability, playing key roles as discussed by the authors.

NEXAFS and XPS characterisation of carbon functional groups of fresh and aged biochars

TL;DR: In this article, two Eucalyptus wood biochars were incubated separately in each of the four contrasting soils for up to 2 years at 20°C, 40°C and 60°C.
Journal ArticleDOI

Observation of a distinct surface molecular orientation in films of a high mobility conjugated polymer.

TL;DR: GIWAXS lacks the surface sensitivity required to probe the microstructure of the accumulation layer that supports charge transport in organic FETs and hence may not necessarily be appropriate for correlating film microst structure and FET charge transport.

X-Ray Interactions: Photoabsorption, Scattering, Transmission, and Reflection at E = 50-30,000 eV, Z = 1-92

TL;DR: In this article, the atomic scattering factors for all angles of coherent scattering and at the higher photon energies are obtained from these tabulated forward-scattering values by adding a simple angle-dependent form-factor correction.

Elements of Modern X-ray Physics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a survey of X-rays and their interaction with matter, and compare them with Neutrons, and demonstrate the properties of the Electromagnetic Field.

Adaptive and responsive surfaces through controlled reorganization of interfacial polymer layers

TL;DR: In this article, an overview of the current state of the research field of adaptive and environmentally sensitive polymer surfaces designed to respond to external stimuli in a controlled and predictable manner is presented.

Self-assembled monolayers: from 'simple' model systems to biofunctionalized interfaces

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors review recent developments in the area of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) and their applications and discuss issues related to the structure, the phase transitions, phase diagram, and the growth dynamics.
