Reconstruction and analysis of transcription factor-miRNA co-regulatory feed-forward loops in human cancers using filter-wrapper feature selection.
TL;DR: A novel filter-wrapper feature selection method is proposed to accurately identify co-regulatory mechanism by incorporating prior information from predicted regulatory interactions with parallel miRNA/mRNA expression datasets and showed that the top-ranking TF STAT3 and miRNA hsa-let-7e are key regulators implicated in human cancers.

Uncorrelated Lasso
TL;DR: An effective iterative algorithm, with the proof of convergence, is presented to solve the sparse optimization problem and shows that the proposed method has better classification performance than many state-of-the-art variable selection methods.

Morphological profiling of tubercle bacilli identifies drug pathways of action
Trever C. Smith,Krista M. Pullen,Krista M. Pullen,Michaela C. Olson,Morgan E. McNellis,Ian W. Richardson,Sophia Hu,Jonah Larkins-Ford,Jonah Larkins-Ford,Xin Wang,Joel S. Freundlich,D. Michael Ando,Bree B. Aldridge +12 more
TL;DR: The ability of MorphEUS to rapidly identify pathways of drug action and the proximal cause of cellular damage in tubercle bacilli will make it applicable to other pathogens and cell types where morphological responses are subtle and heterogeneous.

Combined local features selection for face recognition based on Naïve Bayesian classification
TL;DR: This paper proposed a local approach for face recognition based on combined features selection methods like Genetic algorithm, Gramdt Shmidt algorithm, mRmR features selection algorithm and naïve Bayesian classifier to be compared with some face recognition systems based on global features.

Partial maximum correlation information: A new feature selection method for microarray data classification
TL;DR: The experimental results show that PMCI is an effective feature selection method with good performance and lower time complexity, and a new generic class-encoding scheme for multi-class problems is provided.

TL;DR: A generic approach to cancer classification based on gene expression monitoring by DNA microarrays is described and applied to human acute leukemias as a test case and suggests a general strategy for discovering and predicting cancer classes for other types of cancer, independent of previous biological knowledge.

TL;DR: It is shown that there is diversity in gene expression among the tumours of DLBCL patients, apparently reflecting the variation in tumour proliferation rate, host response and differentiation state of the tumour.

TL;DR: Decomposition implementations for two "all-together" multiclass SVM methods are given and it is shown that for large problems methods by considering all data at once in general need fewer support vectors.

Broad patterns of gene expression revealed by clustering analysis of tumor and normal colon tissues probed by oligonucleotide arrays.
Uri Alon,Naama Barkai,Daniel A. Notterman,Kurt C. Gish,S. Ybarra,David H. Mack,A. J. Levine,A. J. Levine +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a two-way clustering algorithm was applied to both the genes and the tissues, revealing broad coherent patterns that suggest a high degree of organization underlying gene expression in these tissues.
