Abstract
We propose a unified neural network architecture and learning algorithm that can be applied to various natural language processing tasks including part-of-speech tagging, chunking, named entity recognition, and semantic role labeling. This versatility is achieved by trying to avoid task-specific engineering and therefore disregarding a lot of prior knowledge. Instead of exploiting man-made input features carefully optimized for each task, our system learns internal representations on the basis of vast amounts of mostly unlabeled training data. This work is then used as a basis for building a freely available tagging system with good performance and minimal computational requirements.

Learning Character-level Representations for Part-of-Speech Tagging

TL;DR: A deep neural network is proposed that learns character-level representation of words and associate them with usual word representations to perform POS tagging and produces state-of-the-art POS taggers for two languages.

Representation learning of knowledge graphs with entity descriptions

TL;DR: Experimental results on real-world datasets show that, the proposed novel RL method for knowledge graphs outperforms other baselines on the two tasks, especially under the zero-shot setting, which indicates that the method is capable of building representations for novel entities according to their descriptions.

Semi-supervised sequence tagging with bidirectional language models

TL;DR: A general semi-supervised approach for adding pre- trained context embeddings from bidirectional language models to NLP systems and apply it to sequence labeling tasks, surpassing previous systems that use other forms of transfer or joint learning with additional labeled data and task specific gazetteers.
