Neuropathic pain prevalence following spinal cord injury: A systematic review and meta-analysis

TLDR
Future studies should include established definitions, classification systems and assessment tools for NP at defined time points post SCI to follow the trajectory of this problem across the lifespan and include indices of sleep, mood and interference to allow for appropriate, optimal and timely NP management for each patient.

Neuropathic Pain: From Mechanisms to Treatment

TL;DR: Neuropathic pain caused by a lesion or disease of the somatosensory nervous system is a common chronic pain condition with major impact on quality of life and the major classes of therapeutics include drugs acting on α2 δsubunits of calcium channels, sodium channels, and descending modulatory inhibitory pathways.

When pain gets stuck: the evolution of pain chronification and treatment resistance.

TL;DR: This review discusses possible contributions and interactions of biological, social, and psychological perturbations that underlie the evolution of treatment-resistant chronic pain and proposes the concept of "stickiness" as a soubriquet for capturing the multiple influences on the persistence of pain and pain behavior.
Journal ArticleDOI

Challenges of neuropathic pain: focus on diabetic neuropathy.

TL;DR: The goal is to review current knowledge of the pathophysiology of peripheral neuropathic pain, particularly painful diabetic neuropathy, and propose a research agenda for translational research including patient stratification for clinical trials and improved preclinical models.

Neuropathic Pain After Spinal Cord Injury: Challenges and Research Perspectives

TL;DR: Greater use of operant tasks for evaluation of the affective dimension of pain in rodents is needed, but these tests have their own limitations such that additional studies of the relationship between evoked withdrawals and operant outcomes are recommended.

Health care utilization.

TL;DR: It is important to distinguish between acute and SNF nights in hospital (patients often can't distinguish) and to clarify whether the physician visits include infusions, allergy shots, dialysis, or diagnostic tests.

Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses: the PRISMA Statement.

TL;DR: The QUOROM Statement (QUality Of Reporting Of Meta-analyses) as mentioned in this paper was developed to address the suboptimal reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
