Journal ArticleDOI
What has research over the past two decades revealed about the adverse health effects of recreational cannabis use
TL;DR: The epidemiological literature in the past 20 years shows that cannabis use increases the risk of accidents and can produce dependence, and that there are consistent associations between regular cannabis use and poor psychosocial outcomes and mental health in adulthood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Environmental pollutants as risk factors for neurodegenerative disorders: Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases
TL;DR: Data is discussed about the role of environmental factors in the development of idiopathic AD and PD, and their mechanisms of action, including epigenetic mechanisms by maternal nutrient supplementation and exposure to heavy metals and pesticides.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interactions of iron, dopamine and neuromelanin pathways in brain aging and Parkinson's disease.
Fabio A. Zucca,Juan Segura-Aguilar,Emanuele Ferrari,Patricia Muñoz,Irmgard Paris,David Sulzer,Tadeusz Sarna,Luigi Casella,Luigi Zecca +8 more
TL;DR: Considering the above issues, age‐related accumulation of neuromelanin in dopamine neurons shows an interesting link between aging and neurodegeneration.
Journal ArticleDOI
The neurotropic herpes viruses: herpes simplex and varicella-zoster
TL;DR: The biological, medical, and neurological aspects of acute, latent, and reactivated infections with the neurotropic herpes viruses are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuroprotective properties of the natural phenolic antioxidants curcumin and naringenin but not quercetin and fisetin in a 6-OHDA model of Parkinson's disease
Virginia Zbarsky,Krishna P. Datla,Shabnam Parkar,Deepal K Rai,Okezie I. Aruoma,David T. Dexter +5 more
TL;DR: The ability of curcumin and naringenin to exhibit neuroprotection in the 6-OHDA model of PD may be related to their antioxidant capabilities and their capability to penetrate into the brain.

Construction of a genetic linkage map in man using restriction fragment length polymorphisms.
TL;DR: A new basis for the construction of a genetic linkage map of the human genome is described, to develop, by recombinant DNA techniques, random single-copy DNA probes capable of detecting DNA sequence polymorphisms, when hybridized to restriction digests of an individual's DNA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gene Action in the X -chromosome of the Mouse ( Mus musculus L.)
TL;DR: Ohno and Hauschka1 showed that in female mice one chromosome of mammary carcinoma cells and of normal diploid cells of the ovary, mammary gland and liver was heteropyKnotic and suggested that the so-called sex chromatin was composed of one heteropyknotic X-chromosome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adrenoleukodystrophy: evidence for X linkage, inactivation, and selection favoring the mutant allele in heterozygous cells
TL;DR: The increased levels of fatty acids in plasma in most heterozygotes and the phenotype of blood cells of women heterozygous for both ALD and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in one family are evidence that selection favoring the mutant allele may occur in vivo as well as in vitro and may explain why many heterozygote manifest clinical symptoms of the disease.
