Journal ArticleDOI

Manganese oxide-based heterogeneous electrocatalysts for water oxidation

TL;DR: In this article, the structural characteristics of the Mn4CaO5 cluster and synthetic manganese oxides are described and the current understanding of the reaction mechanism at the atomic level and the rate-determining step is highlighted.

Synchrotron X-ray Diffraction Study of the Structure and Dehydration Behavior of Todorokite

TL;DR: In this article, temperature-resolved synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction data and Rietveld refinements were used to investigate the behavior of the todorokite structure from 100 to 820 K. At higher temperatures, the unitcell volume gradually decreased, primarily as a result of a decrease in c, and the decline in β with increasing temperature was accelerated.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Critical Review on the Multiple Roles of Manganese in Stabilizing and Destabilizing Soil Organic Matter

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the ecological roles of Mn in terrestrial environments and synthesize existing knowledge on the multiple pathways by which biogeochemical Mn and C cycling intersect and demonstrate that Mn has a high potential to degrade organic molecules through abiotic and microbially mediated oxidation and to stabilize organic molecules, at least temporarily, through organo-mineral associations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Raman spectroscopy study of manganese oxides: Tunnel structures

TL;DR: In this article, the authors collected Raman spectra for an extensive set of well-characterized tunnel-structure Mn oxide mineral species employing a range of data collection conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of calcination temperature on morphology and phase transformation of MnO2 nanoparticles: A step towards green synthesis for reactive dye adsorption

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of pH, adsorbent dose, agitation speed, initial dye concentration and temperature on dye removal was explored, and the mechanism of adsorption was studied theoretically confirming π-π interaction and H-bonding between the MnO2 and RB dye molecules.

Manganese oxide minerals: Crystal structures and economic and environmental significance

TL;DR: The crystal structures for todorokite and birnessite, two of the more common Mn oxide minerals in terrestrial deposits and ocean nodules, were determined by using powder x-ray diffraction data and the Rietveld refinement method.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lattice vibrations of manganese oxides. Part I. Periodic structures.

TL;DR: Structural trends are deduced from the comparison of the vibrational spectra of the MDO phases investigated: birnessite, bixbyite, coronadite, groutite, hausmannite, hollandite, manganosite, pyrolusite, ramsdellite, romanechite, spinel, and todorokite.
Journal ArticleDOI

Raman spectra of birnessite manganese dioxides

TL;DR: In this article, the structural features of layered manganese dioxides of the Birnessite family were studied using Raman scattering spectroscopy, which is capable of analysing directly the near-neighbour environment of oxygen coordination around menganese and lithium cations.
Journal ArticleDOI

The synthesis of birnessite, cryptomelane, and some other oxides and hydroxides of manganese

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed method for the laboratory preparation of the manganese minerals manganosite, hausmannite, manganite, partridgeite, birnessite, cryptomelane, pyrolusite, and todorokite is described.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vibrational spectroscopy of bulk and supported manganese oxides

TL;DR: In this paper, X-ray diffraction was used to determine the phase composition of manganese oxide catalysts, both bulk and supported on γ-Al2O3 and SiO2.
