Abstract
Building on her seminal contribution to social theory in Culture and Agency, in this 1995 book Margaret Archer develops her morphogenetic approach, applying it to the problem of structure and agency. Since structure and agency constitute different levels of stratified social reality, each possesses distinctive emergent properties which are real and causally efficacious but irreducible to one another. The problem, therefore, is shown to be how to link the two rather than conflate them, as has been common theoretical practice. Realist Social Theory: The Morphogenetic Approach not only rejects methodological individualism and holism, but argues that the debate between them has been replaced by a new one, between elisionary theorising and emergentist theories based on a realist ontology of the social world. The morphogenetic approach is the sociological complement of transcendental realism, and together they provide a basis for non-conflationary theorizing which is also of direct utility to the practising social analyst.

Port-centric logistics, dry ports and offshore logistics hubs: strategies to overcome double peripherality?

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss site development strategies to overcome Scotland's double peripherality by restructuring transport chains of large shippers through new corridors and discuss three competing logistics concepts: port-centric logistics based at Scottish ports, off-shore portcentric logistics utilising maritime links to a port-based distribution centre in Zeebrugge, and port-centric logistics based on the existing load centre terminal that provides direct access to distant main ports.

Level models of continuing professional development evaluation: a grounded review and critique

TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider the strengths and limitations of level models, and in particular the degree to which they are able to do justice to the complexity of CPD and its effects, and report their experience of developing such models heuristically for their own evaluation practice.

Globalization and national capitalisms: theorizing convergence and differentiation

TL;DR: In this paper, a stylized account is given of some "comparativist" approaches, mainly in international and comparative political economy and in economic sociology, to institutional change, and the concepts of institution and institutional change are examined under four headings.
