Removal efficiency of multiple poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in drinking water using granular activated carbon (GAC) and anion exchange (AE) column tests

TLDR
The results indicate that designers and operators of AE and GAC treatment processes must take into consideration the selective nature of PFAS removal and associated desorption of short-chain PFCAs during co-removal of multiple PFASs.

Removal of emerging contaminants from the environment by adsorption

TL;DR: Adsorption is a promising method worldwide for EC removal since it is low initial cost for implementation, highly-efficient and has simple operating design.

Removal of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water by adsorption: Role of PFAS chain length, effect of organic matter and challenges in adsorbent regeneration.

TL;DR: A critical review of the recent peer-reviewed studies on the removal of long- and short-chain PFAS by adsorption is provided to review the performance of different adsorbents for both long-and-short-chainPFAS, the effect of organic matter, and the adsorbent regeneration techniques.

A review of emerging technologies for remediation of PFASs

TL;DR: The need for remediation of polyand perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) is growing as a result of more regulatory attention to this new class of contaminants with diminishing water quality standards being promulgated, commonly in the parts per trillion range.

The overlooked short- and ultrashort-chain poly- and perfluorinated substances: A review.

TL;DR: The main objective of this article is to provide the first critical review of the peer-reviewed studies on the analytical methods, occurrence, mobility, and treatment for ultra-short-chain PFAS (C = 2-3) and short-chainPFAS ( 4-7) and identify the future research needs.

Adsorption of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) from aqueous solution - A review.

TL;DR: The technical feasibility of the use of different adsorbents, such as activated carbon, ion exchange resins, minerals, molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and a wide range of potentially low-cost biosorbent, for PFASs removal from water or wastewater is critically reviewed.

Global distribution of perfluorooctane sulfonate in wildlife.

TL;DR: Fish-eating, predatory animals such as mink and bald eagles contained concentrations of PFOS that were greater than the concentrations in their diets, suggesting that PFOS can bioaccumulate to higher trophic levels of the food chain.

Sources, fate and transport of perfluorocarboxylates.

TL;DR: Transport pathways for PFCAs in the environment were reviewed, and it was concluded that, in addition to atmospheric transport/degradation of precursors, atmospheric and ocean water transport of the PFCA themselves could significantly contribute to their long-range transport.

Sorption of Perfluorinated Surfactants on Sediments

TL;DR: The sorption of anionic perfluorochemical (PFC) surfactants of varying chain lengths to sediments was investigated using natural sediments of varying iron oxide and organic carbon content, suggesting the importance of hydrophobic interactions.
