Stratification of Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS) for Aggregated Anammox Microorganisms.
TL;DR: The results showed that slime and TB-EPS (tightly bound EPS) were closely related with water quality and sludge morphology, and could be used as the indicators for anammox microbial survival ability and microbial aggregate morphology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spectroscopic characterization of extracellular polymeric substances from a mixed culture dominated by ammonia-oxidizing bacteria
TL;DR: Characterization using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed the dominance of amide bands and/or polysaccharide-associated bands in the EPS of AnAOB and AerAOB, and can potentially expand the knowledge of the microbial aggregates responsible for autotrophic nitrogen removal.
Journal ArticleDOI
Component analysis of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) during aerobic sludge granulation using FTIR and 3D-EEM technologies
TL;DR: Three-dimensional fluorescence spectrum and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy technologies showed that the components of sludge EPS tended to be stable during aerobic sludge granulation, and the transformations between the isomers and other forms of carbohydrates may be attributed to the formation of aerobic granule.

Effects of microplastics on wastewater and sewage sludge treatment and their removal: A review
Zhiqi Zhang,Yinguang Chen +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of microplastics on wastewater and sludge treatment and the mechanisms were discussed, and the problems that need to be addressed in the future were pointed out and the key points for future investigation were proposed.

Mechanisms of removing pollutants from aqueous solutions by microorganisms and their aggregates: A review
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the application of microbial aggregates consisting of multiple photoautotrophic and heterotrophic microorganisms, is a promising method of removing multiple pollutants from complex wastewaters and warrants further research.
