Self-splicing RNA: Autoexcision and autocyclization of the ribosomal RNA intervening sequence of tetrahymena

TLDR
It is proposed that the IVS portion of the RNA has several enzyme-like properties that enable it to break and reform phosphodiester bonds and that enzymes, small nuclear RNAs and folding of the pre-rRNA into an RNP are unnecessary for these reactions.

Efficient in vitro synthesis of biologically active RNA and RNA hybridization probes from plasmids containing a bacteriophage SP6 promoter

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple and efficient method for synthesizing pure single stranded RNAs of virtually any structure is described, based on the unusually specific RNA synthesis by bacteriophage SP6 RNA polymerase which initiates transcription exclusively at an SP6 promoter.

The RNA moiety of ribonuclease P is the catalytic subunit of the enzyme

TL;DR: The RNA moieties of ribonuclease P purified from both E. coli and B. subtilis can cleave tRNA precursor molecules in buffers containing either 60 mM Mg2+ or 10 mM MG2+ plus 1 mM spermidine, and in vitro, the RNA and protein subunits from one species can complement sub units from the other species in reconstitution experiments.

The Structural Basis of Ribosome Activity in Peptide Bond Synthesis

TL;DR: It is established that the ribosome is a ribozyme and the catalytic properties of its all-RNA active site are addressed and the mechanism of peptide bond synthesis appears to resemble the reverse of the acylation step in serine proteases.
Journal ArticleDOI

On finding all suboptimal foldings of an RNA molecule

TL;DR: The mathematical problem of determining how well defined a minimum energy folding is can now be solved and all predicted base pairs that can participate in suboptimal structures may be displayed and analyzed graphically.

A rapid alkaline extraction procedure for screening recombinant plasmid DNA

H C Birnboim, +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a procedure for extracting plasmid DNA from bacterial cells is described, which is simple enough to permit the analysis by gel electrophoresis of 100 or more clones per day, yet yields DNA which is pure enough to be digestible by restriction enzymes.

Arapid alkaline extraction procedure forscreening recombinant plasmid DNA

TL;DR: The method is simple enough to permit the analysis by gel electrophoresis of 100 or more clones per day yet yields plasmid DNA which is pure enough to be digestible by restriction enzymes, and achievesequate pH control without using a pH meter.

Organization and Expression of Eucaryotic Split Genes Coding for Proteins

TL;DR: This paper organizes the organization of protein codes into split genes, a small number of which are expressed in the chickenuct, and discusses generalization, generalization and Molecular Evolution.

A complementation analysis of the restriction and modification of DNA in Escherichia coli.

TL;DR: Intercistronic complementation was observed between three classes of restriction and modification mutants of E. coli B, indicating that at least three cistron (the ram cistrons) are involved in the genetic control of the [restriction and modification of DNA].

Expression of eucaryotic split genes coding for proteins

TL;DR: In this paper, the split genes were described as follows: Globin genes expressed in the chicken o,iduct, Vitellogenin genes, Collagen genes and Actin genes.
