Brain morphology predictors of alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis use in adolescence: A systematic review

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors provided an overview of longitudinal studies on pre-existing brain variations and later initiation of alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis use (N = 18). And they suggested future research directions regarding sample selection, timing of baseline and follow-up measurements, and a harmonization approach of study methods.

From circuits to behaviour in the amygdala

TL;DR: The amygdala has long been associated with emotion and motivation, playing an essential part in processing both fearful and rewarding environmental stimuli, and understanding how the amygdala contributes to a wide array of behaviours requires the study of distinct amygdala circuits.

Differential development of attention and executive functions in 3- to 12-year-old Finnish children.

TL;DR: The developmental staging and clustering of functions suggests that, although inhibition, attention, and EFs are highly interrelated cognitive functions, their developmental sequences are separate from one another.

Parallel incentive processing: an integrated view of amygdala function.

TL;DR: It is suggested that more attention should be given to the claims of the parallel view of the amygdala, in which aversive learning is mediated by the amygdala basolateral nucleus whereas performance, in this case of various defensive reflexes, ismediated by the central nucleus.
