Abstract
A deformation measurement system based on particle image velocimetry (PIV) and close-range photogrammetry has been developed for use in geotechnical testing. In this paper, the theory underlying this system is described, and the performance is validated. Digital photography is used to capture images of planar soil deformation. Using PIV, the movement of a fine mesh of soil patches is measured to a high precision. Since PIV operates on the image texture, intrusive target markers need not be installed in the observed soil. The resulting displacement vectors are converted from image space to object space using a photogrammetric transformation. A series of validation experiments are reported. These demonstrate that the precision, accuracy and resolution of the system are an order of magnitude higher than previous image-based deformation methods, and are comparable to local instrumentation used in element testing. This performance is achieved concurrent with an order of magnitude increase in the number of meas...

Settlement of strip footing on sandy soil due to eccentricity

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of eccentricity on the settlement of sandy soil has been investigated, and the failure mechanism of strip footing on cohesionless soil by close range photogrammetry and particle image velocimetry (PIV) methods has been analyzed.

Bond Behaviour of Steel Reinforcing Bars Embedded in Ultra-High-Performance Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete

TL;DR: In this paper, a four-point bending test program (FPBT) was arranged and conducted on 19 beams designed for the bond development to occur in the constant moment region along a short embedment length in order to achieve a uniform distribution of bond stresses, enabling measurement of bond strength through reverse engineering of beam strength and deformation.

Vision-based Deformation Measurement for Pile-soil Testing

TL;DR: In this paper, the concept of optical extensometer is first applied to the measurement of local average strain of a non-uniform deformed structure, based on an improved feature point tracking algorithm SURF-BRISK, non-contact measurement of tiny strain of pile body is realized.
