Extinction cascades and catastrophe in ancient food webs

TL;DR: A model is developed to explore the potential responses of paleocommunities to disruptions of primary production during times of mass extinction and ecological crisis and results are congruent with empirical observations of “disaster taxa” dominance after some mass extinction events, and provide a mechanism for the reorganization of ecosystems that is observed after those events.

Mathematical Models in the Economics of Renewable Resources

Colin W. Clark
- 01 Jan 1979 -
TL;DR: In this paper, three classes of models of renewable resource economics are discussed: profit-maximizing models, competitive equilibrium models, and cooperative equilibrium models; a variety of complexities, both biological and economic, are also discussed, including irreversibility problems, disaggregated biological models, delay effects, and stochastic models.

A class of nonlinear diffusion problems in age-dependent population dynamics☆

TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered a general form of the nonlinear diffusion mechanism and developed a method for establishing the existence and uniqueness of solutions of the resulting equations. And they also described the asymptotic behavior of the solutions when the time variable becomes large, and applied their results to some specific examples.

Commercial forest fertilization causes long-term residual effects in ground vegetation of boreal forests

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of forest fertilization on ground vegetation in boreal forest by comparing species composition in unfertilized stands and stands fertilized twice (>20 years since the last fertilization) with 150 kg N −1 per event.
