Instability of spatial patterns and its ambiguous impact on species diversity
Tobias Reichenbach,Erwin Frey +1 more
TL;DR: This work investigates pattern formation arising from cyclic dominance of three species, operating near a bifurcation point, employing a complex Ginzburg-Landau equation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stability and persistence of food webs with omnivory: Is there a general pattern?
TL;DR: This work synthesizes recent evidence that omnivory often stabilizes food webs when it occurs as life-history Omnivory, when prey experience reduced predation rates due to refuges or adaptive antipredator defences, and when omnivores interfere with each other or feed adaptively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Community interaction webs and zooplankton responses to planktivory manipulations
Anthony R. Ives,Anthony R. Ives,Stephen R. Carpenter,Stephen R. Carpenter,Brian Dennis,Brian Dennis +5 more
TL;DR: The analysis of population dynamics of nine zooplankton species or species groups in a lake subjected to experimental manipulations of the fish community was analyzed to ask whether information about the response of species to planktivory manipulations could be used to anticipate species' responses to other types of perturbation.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of intraspecific variation and heritability on community pattern and robustness
György Barabás,Rafael D’Andrea +1 more
TL;DR: The consequences of intraspecific trait variation for coexistence in two- and multispecies competitive communities are explored and communities are much more resilient against environmental disturbance and exhibit far more predictable trait patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI
Specificity Versus Detectable Polymorphism in Host--Parasite Genetics
TL;DR: It is shown that one cannot reconstruct both specificity and population history from patterns of resistance among host-parasite pairs in a sample, and inferred specificity and polymorphism are only useful when compared with a family of theoretical models.
