Journal ArticleDOI
Professional diversity and the productivity of cities
TL;DR: This work proposes a theoretical framework that derives the form and parameters of the limiting distribution of professions based on the appearance, in urban social networks, of new occupations as the result of specialization and coordination of labor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Covariability of chlorophyll and temperature in the sea
TL;DR: In this article, a series of chlorophyll a and temperature obtained from multiple-depth horizontal tows have been treated by spectral analysis, showing that the spectral similarity of the two spectra can be attributed to internal wave and vertical mixing effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chimera states in population dynamics: networks with fragmented and hierarchical connectivities
Johanne Hizanidis,Evangelia Panagakou,Iryna Omelchenko,Eckehard Schöll,Philipp Hövel,Astero Provata +5 more
TL;DR: Numerically the development of chimera states in networks of nonlocally coupled oscillators whose limit cycles emerge from a Hopf bifurcation are studied and it is shown that hierarchical (fractal) coupling topologies induce traveling multichimera states.

Extrapolation Practice for Ecotoxicological Effect Characterization of Chemicals
Keith R. Solomon,Theo C.M. Brock,Dick de Zwart,Scott D. Dyer,Leo Posthuma,Sean M. Richards,Hans Sanderson,Paul K. Sibley,Paul J. Van den Brink +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a glossary on the application of Extrapolation Methods in Ecological Exposure and Effects Characterization of Chemicals, L.C M. Brock, K.R. Solomon, T.C. Posthuma, S.J. Sibley, H.T. Richards, C.W. Hickey, J.M. Chapman, and K.E. Solomon.
Book ChapterDOI
Chapter 2 Bioeconomics of renewable resource use
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the economic concepts that appear to be central to analyzing biological situations typically encountered and cover two classes of problems: a continuous investment/disinvestment problem and a point-input point-output problem where timing of a single action is important.
