Substrate-binding properties of firefly luciferase. I. Luciferin-binding site.

TLDR
Comparison of the binding energies of several heterocyclic compounds structurally related to benzothiazole suggests that the nitrogen atom of the benzothsiazole ring may be important in orienting the compound to a fixed position in the luciferinbinding site.

Do general anaesthetics act by competitive binding to specific receptors

TL;DR: It is shown that, over a 100,000-fold range of potencies, the activity of a pure soluble protein can be inhibited by 50% at anaesthetic concentrations which are essentially identical to those which anaesthetize animals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modulation of firefly luciferase stability and impact on studies of gene regulation.

TL;DR: Two of the reporter enzymes most commonly used in studies of eukaryotic gene expression are chloramphenicol acetyl-transferase (CAT) and firefly luciferase (Luc) and more than tenfold increases in Luc activity can be observed when compounds that resemble its natural substrate, luciferin, are added.
Journal ArticleDOI

The design of guanidinium-rich transporters and their internalization mechanisms.

TL;DR: An overview of recent work pertinent to the design and mechanism of uptake of guanidinium-rich transporters is provided to enable delivery of polar and non-polar drugs or probes as well as to enhance uptake of those of intermediate polarity.

In vivo imaging of hydrogen peroxide production in a murine tumor model with a chemoselective bioluminescent reporter

TL;DR: The design, synthesis, and in vivo applications of Peroxy Caged Luciferin-1 (PCL-1), a chemoselective bioluminescent probe for the real-time detection of H2O2 within living animals are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bioconjugation via azide-Staudinger ligation: an overview.

TL;DR: Bioconjugation techniques using organic azides are compared in this critical review of chemical ligation reactions and their application to chemical biology.

The Attractions of Proteins for Small Molecules and Ions

TL;DR: The number and variety of known compounrjs between proteins and small molecules are increasing rapidly and make a fascinating story as discussed by the authors, and there are many compounds of serum albumin, which was used during the war by many chemists, most of whom found at least one 6ew compound.

The Determination of Enzyme Dissociation Constants

TL;DR: On the basis of the assumed theory the rate of the observed reaction is directly proportional to the concentration of the enzyme-substrate compound, where (E:l = (ES).

A simple efficient liquid scintillator for counting aqueous solutions in a liquid scintillation counter

TL;DR: A modification of the naphthalene-dioxane-PPO liquid scintillator has been described which will allow up to 3.0 ml of an aqueous solution to be counted as mentioned in this paper.

Order of Stability of Metal Complexes

H. Irving, +1 more
- 01 Nov 1948 -
TL;DR: In this article, the stability of complexes of bivalent metal ions follows the order of the order in which they are formed, and it is shown that the stability is not correlated with the order.
