Abstract
A new polymer-ceramic nanocomposite has been synthesized consisting of well-dispersed, two-dimensional layers of an organically modified mica-type silicate (MTS) within a degradable poly(e-caprolactone) matrix. A protonated amino acid derivative of MTS was used to promote delamination/dispersion of the host layers and initiate ring-opening polymerization of e-caprolactone monomer, resulting in poly(e-caprolactone) chains that are ionically bound to the silicate layers. The polymer chains can be released from the silicate surface by a reverse ion-exchange reaction and were shown to be spectroscopically similar to pure poly(e-caprolactone). Thick films of the polymer nanocomposite exhibit a significant reduction in water vapor permeability that shows a linear dependence on silicate content. The permeability of nanocomposite containing as low as 4.8% silicate by volume was reduced by nearly an order of magnitude compared to pure poly(e-caprolactone)

Synthesis and Characterization of Linseed Oil-Based Nanocomposites

TL;DR: In this article, a wide angle X-ray diffraction results clearly show the distortion of the platy nanolayers of the nanofiller in the polymer matrix as the peak due to the clay disappears in the nanocomposite samples.

Characterisation and Object-Oriented Finite Element Modelling of Polypropylene/Organoclay Nanocomposites

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of nanoscale fillers with respect to actual morphology through numerical modeling have been rarely addressed, and a unique development from fabrication and experimental characterisation to numerical modelling of polypropylene/organoclay nanocomposites based on the real mapping of nano/microstructures is described.

Nonisothermal Crystallization Behavior and Crystals Morphology of Poly(trimethylene terephthalate)/ Nano-Calcium Carbonate Composites

TL;DR: In this article, the modified Avrami equation and Ozawa theory were used to investigate the nonisothermal crystallization behavior and crystal morphology of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) composites filled with modified nano-calcium carbonate (CaCO3) by using differential scanning calorimetry and polarized optical microscopy.
