Abstract
A new polymer-ceramic nanocomposite has been synthesized consisting of well-dispersed, two-dimensional layers of an organically modified mica-type silicate (MTS) within a degradable poly(e-caprolactone) matrix. A protonated amino acid derivative of MTS was used to promote delamination/dispersion of the host layers and initiate ring-opening polymerization of e-caprolactone monomer, resulting in poly(e-caprolactone) chains that are ionically bound to the silicate layers. The polymer chains can be released from the silicate surface by a reverse ion-exchange reaction and were shown to be spectroscopically similar to pure poly(e-caprolactone). Thick films of the polymer nanocomposite exhibit a significant reduction in water vapor permeability that shows a linear dependence on silicate content. The permeability of nanocomposite containing as low as 4.8% silicate by volume was reduced by nearly an order of magnitude compared to pure poly(e-caprolactone)

Vulcanization kinetics of nitrile rubber/layered clay nanocomposites

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used an autocatalytic model for analyzing the cure parameters of rubber/clay nanocomposites and found that the activation energy of the NBR/O-MMT was lower than that of pristine NBR.

Experimental Characterisation and Object-Oriented Finite Element Modelling of Polypropylene/Organoclay Nanocomposites

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of nanoscale fillers with respect to actual morphology through numerical modeling have been rarely addressed, and a unique development from fabrication and experimental characterisation to numerical modelling of polypropylene/organoclay nanocomposites based on the real mapping of nano/microstructures was described.

Polyester layered silicate nanohybrids by controlled grafting polymerization

TL;DR: The surface-grafted poly(e-caprolactone) chains were recovered by an ionic exchange reaction with lithium chloride and they were analyzed by size exclusion chromatography as mentioned in this paper.

Preparation and properties of polysulfone–clay composite membranes

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a wide-angle X-ray diffractometry to examine the clay dispersion in the membrane structure and found that Cloisite 30B yielded nanostructures composed of both single sheets and well-ordered multilayer silicate clusters, which were characterized by an interlayer distance higher than that of the neat clay.
