Coordination chemistry of vanadium in metallopharmaceutical candidate compounds
TL;DR: In this paper, the most recent developments in the coordination chemistry of vanadium(III, (IV) and (V) as related to development of these compounds for pharmaceutical use are discussed.

Chemistry and Biochemistry of Insulin-Mimetic Vanadium and Zinc Complexes. Trial for Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus
TL;DR: In this paper, the current state of research on insulin-mimetic and antidiabetic metal complexes, with special focus on paramagnetic vanadyl and diamagnetic zinc(II) complexes with different coordination modes, together with possible reaction mechanisms, is reviewed.

Interaction between the low molecular mass components of blood serum and the VO(IV)–DHP system (DHP = 1,2-dimethyl-3-hydroxy-4(1H)-pyridinone)
TL;DR: The results in the ternary systems demonstrate that, at physiological pH, none of the B ligands can compete with DHP; [VO(DHP)2] therefore seems to remain almost completely intact, even in the presence of citrate, the strongest competitor among these B ligand.

Spectroscopic and potentiometric characterization of oxovanadium(IV) complexes formed by 3-hydroxy-4-pyridinones. Rationalization of the influence of basicity and electronic structure of the ligand on the properties of V(IV)O species in aqueous solution.

TL;DR: Aqueous solution studies regarding the identification and characterization of complexes formed by the VIVO ion and 11 3-hydroxy-4-pyridinone derivatives have been performed using EPR and UV/vis spectroscopic techniques, and relationships between the pKa of the -OH group in position 3 of the ring are provided.

Antitumoral effect of vanadium compounds in malignant melanoma cell lines.
Carla Rozzo,Daniele Sanna,Eugenio Garribba,Maria Serra,Alessio Cantara,Giuseppe Palmieri,Marina Pisano +6 more
TL;DR: Experimental data indicate that the cell cycle arrest occurs at different phases for the two V species analyzed, showing the importance of the chemical form in determining their mechanism of action.

A 2dvEv- bit distributed algorithm for the directed Euler trail problem
Wen-Huei Chen,Chuan Yi Tang +1 more
TL;DR: The algorithm can be used as a building block for solving other distributed graph problems, and can be slightly modified to run on a strongly-connected diagraph for generating the existent Euler trail or to report that no Euler trails exist.

Effect of vanadate on elevated blood glucose and depressed cardiac performance of diabetic rats
TL;DR: Cardiac performance was depressed in the untreated diabetic animals, but the cardiac performance of the vanadate-treated diabetic animals was not significantly different from that of nondiabetic controls, so vanadates controlled the high blood glucose and prevented the decline in cardiac performance due to diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Insulin-like stimulation of glucose oxidation in rat adipocytes by vanadyl (IV) ions
TL;DR: Externally applied vanadate ions at low concentrations mimic fully the effect of insulin on glucose oxidation in rat adipocytes, however, this simulation seems to be due mainly to the effects of vandyl (IV) ions, probably produced within the cells, and not primarily to inhibition of the sodium pump.
