TLDR
In this paper , the authors review how human paradigms can successfully translate animal findings to human subjects, with the view that substantially increased insight into the effect of endocannabinoid signalling on stress responding, emotional and intrusive memories, and fear extinction can be gained using modern paradigmms and methods for assessing the state of the endocannaloid system in PTSD.

The influence of FAAH genetic variation on physiological, cognitive, and neural signatures of fear acquisition and extinction learning in women with PTSD

TL;DR: In this article , the authors examined whether genetic variation in the FAAH gene (C385A; rs324420) influences physiological, cognitive, and neural indices of fear acquisition and extinction learning among a sample of adult women with PTSD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fear extinction induced by activation of PKA ameliorates anxiety-like behavior in PTSD mice

TL;DR: In this article , the effects of activation of PKA by systemic application of rolipram or meglumine cyclic adenosine 3,5-monophosphate (cAMP)-protein kinase A (PKA), protein kinase B (Akt)/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and calcium signaling in peripheral serum of PTSD patients using bioinformatics analysis were shown.
Journal ArticleDOI

Methodological implications of sample size and extinction gradient on the robustness of fear conditioning across different analytic strategies

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors investigated the effect of variance in sample size on the performance of different kinds of fear conditioning analyses and found that confounds incurred by inconsistent analyses remain stable in the face of sample size variation, but only under specific circumstances with overall robustness strongly hinging on the relationship between experimental design and choice of analyses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Angry and fearful compared to happy or neutral faces as conditional stimuli in human fear conditioning: A systematic review and meta-analysis

TL;DR: A systematic review and meta-analysis of fear conditioning studies comparing face conditional stimuli (CS) of differing expressions identified thirty studies, eighteen of which were eligible for meta analysis as mentioned in this paper .
Journal ArticleDOI

Circulating endocannabinoids and psychological outcomes in women with PTSD.

TL;DR: A subset of data was pooled from five studies in which women with and without PTSD (N = 98) completed questionnaires related to mood states and a blood draw prior to and following a bout of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise in order to determine: 1) whether circulating eCBs differ between groups and whether depressive and PTSD symptom severity are associated with baseline eCB, 2) whether a couple of hours of moderate intensity aerobic exercise significantly increased circulating ECA in adult women with PTSD, and 3) whether the circulating eCA and 2-arachidonoylethanolamine (AEA) were associated with overall mood states as discussed by the authors .

Prevalence, Severity, and Comorbidity of 12-Month DSM-IV Disorders in the National Comorbidity Survey Replication

TL;DR: Although mental disorders are widespread, serious cases are concentrated among a relatively small proportion of cases with high comorbidity, as shown in the recently completed US National Comorbidities Survey Replication.
Journal ArticleDOI

Posttraumatic stress disorder in the National Comorbidity Survey.

TL;DR: Progress in estimating age-at-onset distributions, cohort effects, and the conditional probabilities of PTSD from different types of trauma will require future epidemiologic studies to assess PTSD for all lifetime traumas rather than for only a small number of retrospectively reported "most serious" traumAs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Developments of a water-maze procedure for studying spatial learning in the rat

TL;DR: Developments of an open-field water-maze procedure in which rats learn to escape from opaque water onto a hidden platform are described, suggesting that they may lend themselves to a variety of behavioural investigations, including pharmacological work and studies of cerebral function.

Isolation and structure of a brain constituent that binds to the cannabinoid receptor

TL;DR: In this article, an arachidonylethanthanolamide (anandamide) was identified in a screen for endogenous ligands for the cannabinoid receptor and its structure was determined by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and confirmed by synthesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

The ‘Trier Social Stress Test’ – A Tool for Investigating Psychobiological Stress Responses in a Laboratory Setting

TL;DR: The results suggest that gender, genetics and nicotine consumption can influence the individual's stress responsiveness to psychological stress while personality traits showed no correlation with cortisol responses to TSST stimulation.
