TLDR
This study shows that a longer duration of the asymptomatic period results in a more pronounced impact of a screening programme, however, due to the slower turnover of the infection, a substantial reduction in prevalence can only be achieved after screening for several years or decades.

Screening for genital chlamydia infection

TL;DR: The risk of PID was lower in women in intervention than control groups, with little evidence of between-trial heterogeneity, and the effect of multiple rounds of chlamydia screening on C. trachomatis transmission was compatible with no effect and was lower than in two RCTs at high or unclear risk of detection bias.
