TLDR
In this article, an uplink capacity analysis and interference avoidance strategy in a two-tier CDMA network with universal frequency reuse is presented. And the authors evaluate a network-wide area spectral efficiency metric called the Operating Contour defined as the combinations of the average macrocell users and femtocell BS per cell-site that meet a target outage constraint.

Stochastic geometry and random graphs for the analysis and design of wireless networks

TL;DR: This tutorial article surveys some of these techniques based on stochastic geometry and the theory of random geometric graphs, discusses their application to model wireless networks, and presents some of the main results that have appeared in the literature.

Femtocells: Past, Present, and Future

TL;DR: This tutorial article overviews the history of femtocells, demystifies their key aspects, and provides a preview of the next few years, which the authors believe will see a rapid acceleration towards small cell technology.

Interference mitigation using uplink power control for two-tier femtocell networks

TL;DR: Simulation results show that both schemes effectively compensate the uplink throughput degradation of the macrocell BS due to the cross-tier interference and that the closed- loop control provides better femtocell throughput than the open-loop control at a minimal cost of macrocell throughput.

A hybrid frequency assignment for femtocells and coverage area analysis for co-channel operation

TL;DR: This letter proposes an efficient frequency assignment technique for femtocells considering practical issues such as hand-off, coverage, and interference, and calculates interference-limited coverage area (ILCA) of a co-channel femtocell base station.

A Novel Handover Mechanism Between Femtocell and Macrocell for LTE Based Networks

TL;DR: A new handover algorithm based on the UE’s speed and QoS is proposed and shows that the algorithms proposed have a better performance in the reducing of unnecessary handovers and the number of handovers.

Transmission capacity of wireless ad hoc networks with outage constraints

TL;DR: Upper and lower bounds on the transmission capacity of spread-spectrum (SS) wireless ad hoc networks are derived and it can be shown that FH-CDMA obtains a higher transmission capacity on the order of M/sup 1-2//spl alpha//, where M is the spreading factor and /spl alpha/>2 is the path loss exponent.

Power-law shot noise

TL;DR: For certain parameters the power spectral density exhibits 1/f-type behavior over a substantial range of frequencies, so that the process serves as a source of 1/ f/sup alpha / shot noise for alpha in the range 0 >.

Calculating the outage probability in a CDMA network with spatial Poisson traffic

TL;DR: This paper provides a spatial Poisson point pattern model of traffic in a code division multiple access (CDMA) wireless network, and shows how the theory of Poisson processes can be applied to provide statistical information about interference levels in the network.

Uplink user capacity in a CDMA macrocell with a hotspot microcell: exact and approximate analyses

TL;DR: This paper studies the number of voice users supported on the uplink of a single-macrocell/single-microcell code-division multiple-access system and points to differences in capacity performance based on the tier-selection method, as well as on the traffic density within the hotspot region.

Analysis of uplink and downlink capacities for two-tier cellular system

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the system capacity of a two-tier cellular architecture employing three TDMA/CDMA strategies and found that the performance degrades for either a larger macrocell or microcells and are inadequate users near the boundary.
