Uremic Myopathy Limits Aerobic Capacity in Hemodialysis Patients
G E Moore,D. B. Parsons,James Stray-Gundersen,Patricia Painter,K. R. Brinker,Jere H. Mitchell +5 more
TLDR
It is concluded that not all dialysis patients increase VO2peak after training, but most can improve exercise capacity, and Muscle therapies, such as exercise training, are needed in addition to increased oxygen delivery in rehabilitation ofdialysis patients.About:Â

Physical activity levels in patients on hemodialysis and healthy sedentary controls
Kirsten L. Johansen,Glenn M. Chertow,Alexander V. Ng,Kathleen Mulligan,Susan Carey,Patricia Schoenfeld,Jane A. Kent-Braun +6 more
TL;DR: Patients on hemodialysis are less active than healthy sedentary controls, and this difference is more pronounced among older individuals, and there is an association between the level of physical activity and nutritional status among patients on dialysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exercise training for adults with chronic kidney disease
Susanne Heiwe,Stefan H. Jacobson +1 more
TL;DR: The effects of regular exercise in adults with CKD and kidney transplant patients are assessed to determine how the exercise programme should be designed to affect physical fitness and functioning, cardiovascular dimensions, nutrition, lipids, glucose metabolism, systemic inflammation, muscle morphology and morphometrics.

Effects of Resistance Exercise Training and Nandrolone Decanoate on Body Composition and Muscle Function among Patients Who Receive Hemodialysis: A Randomized, Controlled Trial
Kirsten L. Johansen,Patricia Painter,Giorgos K. Sakkas,Patricia L. Gordon,Julie Doyle,Tiffany E. Shubert +5 more
TL;DR: Nandrolone decanoate and resistance exercise produced anabolic effects among patients who were on hemodialysis, and exercise was associated with an improvement in self-reported physical functioning compared with nonexercising groups.

Determinants of Maximal Oxygen Transport and Utilization
TL;DR: It is concluded that the more athletic one is, the more VO2max is sensitive to O2 transport conductances in the lungs, circulation, and skeletal muscle, which appears to be abnormal in chronic conditions such as obstructive pulmonary disease and heart and renal failure.

Mitochondrial localization of oxidative enzymes: staining results with two tetrazolium salts.
TL;DR: It is concluded that, except for formazan deposition on lipid-aqueous interfaces, Nitro-BT staining indicates the intracellular localization of oxidative enzymes, at least at the level of light microscopy, and the use of MTT-Co++ is not reliable for such intrACEllular localizations.

Effects of coenzyme Q10 and menadione on succinic dehydrogenase activity as measured by tetrazolium salt reduction.
TL;DR: The diverse effects of coenzyme Q10 and menadione on the five enzyme systems investigated in the present work indicate that the two quinones do not simply act as nonspecific intermediate electron carriers between dehydrogenase system and tetrazolium salt, but that they enhance enzyme activity by a more specific interaction with some component of the enzyme system.
