TLDR
The acid-detergent fiber method (ADF) as mentioned in this paper is a fiber method based on cetyl trimethylammonium bromide to dissolve proteins in acid solution.
Abstract
The capacity of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide to dissolve proteins in acid solution has been utilized in development of a method, called acid-detergent fiber method (ADF), which is not only a fiber determination in itself bnt also the major preparatory step in the determination of lignin. The entire procedure for determining fiber and lignin is considerably more rapid than presently published methods. Compositional studies show ADF to consist chiefly of lignin and polysaccharides. Correlations with the new fiber method and digestibility of 18 forages (r = —0.79) showed it to be somewhat superior to crude fiber (r = —0.73) in estimating nutritive valué. The correla-

Rate of Plant Cell Wall Particle Size Reduction in the Rumen

TL;DR: The rate of cell wall reduction appears to be inversely proportional to the mean size of particles in the rumen at time zero, and the asymptotic model should have application to study further the importance of reduction ofcell wall particle size in limiting voluntary intake of forages.

The performance of dairy cows offered drinking water of low or high salinity in a hot arid climate

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared brackish well water (BW) containing 3574 mg total dissolved solids (TDS) per I with desalinated water (FW, 449 mg TDS per I) as a source of drinking water for dairy cows in the hot arid conditions of Kuwait.

Comparisons of digestive function between the European hare (Lepus europaeus) and the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus): Mastication, gut passage, and digestibility

TL;DR: To ascertain whether fine niche separation mechanisms occur, several comparative tests of digestive function were undertaken on samples of animals drawn from sympatric populations of the European hare and the European rabbit.

Fine-scale discrimination of forage quality by sheep offered a soyabean meal or barley supplement while grazing a nitrogen-fertilized heather ( Calluna vulgaris) mosaic

TL;DR: It was concluded that sheep are able to discern differences in the chemical composition of heather on a fine scale and that their foraging behaviour is not influenced by the type of supplement offered.
