TLDR
The acid-detergent fiber method (ADF) as mentioned in this paper is a fiber method based on cetyl trimethylammonium bromide to dissolve proteins in acid solution.
Abstract
The capacity of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide to dissolve proteins in acid solution has been utilized in development of a method, called acid-detergent fiber method (ADF), which is not only a fiber determination in itself bnt also the major preparatory step in the determination of lignin. The entire procedure for determining fiber and lignin is considerably more rapid than presently published methods. Compositional studies show ADF to consist chiefly of lignin and polysaccharides. Correlations with the new fiber method and digestibility of 18 forages (r = —0.79) showed it to be somewhat superior to crude fiber (r = —0.73) in estimating nutritive valué. The correla-

Comparison of the acetyl bromide spectrophotometric method with other analytical lignin methods for determining lignin concentration in forage samples.

TL;DR: The ABSL method employing as standard lignin extracted with acidic dioxane has the potential to be employed as an analytical method to determine lign in concentration in a range of forage materials and may be useful in developing a quick and easy method to predict in vitro digestibility on the basis of the total lignIn content of a sample.

Spatial location of carbon decomposition in the soil pore system

TL;DR: In this paper, the pore-size distribution and its interaction with soil water give rise to a highly stratified biogeography of organisms through the soil pore system, which results in different rates of decomposition in pores of different size.

Comparison of the effects of five pretreatment methods on enhancing the enzymatic digestibility and ethanol production from sweet sorghum bagasse.

TL;DR: The FTIR and SEM analysis illustrated significant molecule and surface structure changes of the sweet sorghum bagasse after pretreatments as well as the highest cellulose hydrolysis yield, total sugar yield and ethanol concentration.

Nutrient Dynamics of Aboveground Detritus in Lodgepole Pine (Pinus contorta ssp. latifolia) Ecosystems, Southeastern Wyoming

TL;DR: Dead wood inherited from the previous forest generation was a major detrital storage component, exceeding forest floor mass by several-fold in 80-100 yr old stands, and high nutrient immobilization in the dead wood led to storage values which were similar to those of the forest floor in these stands.

Net Energy Value of Feeds for Lactation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarized 543 energy balance trials with lactating cows to partition the energy required by cows into maintenance and production components and to determine the influence of energy source on the efficiency with which dietary energy is used for milk production.
