Use of Detergents in the Analysis of Fibrous Feeds. II. A Rapid Method for the Determination of Fiber and Lignin
TLDR
The acid-detergent fiber method (ADF) as mentioned in this paper is a fiber method based on cetyl trimethylammonium bromide to dissolve proteins in acid solution.Abstract:
The capacity of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide to dissolve proteins in acid solution has been utilized in development of a method, called acid-detergent fiber method (ADF), which is not only a fiber determination in itself bnt also the major preparatory step in the determination of lignin. The entire procedure for determining fiber and lignin is considerably more rapid than presently published methods. Compositional studies show ADF to consist chiefly of lignin and polysaccharides. Correlations with the new fiber method and digestibility of 18 forages (r = —0.79) showed it to be somewhat superior to crude fiber (r = —0.73) in estimating nutritive valué. The correla-read more

Biochemical changes occurring during growth and storage of two yam species
Serge Trèche,T. Agbor-Egbé +1 more
TL;DR: The biochemical changes occurring during growth and storage of two yam cultivars were studied and weight losses reached 31% in Oshei tubers and 35% in Jakri after 110 days due to sprouting and dehydration.

Development of the gastrointestinal tract and digestibility of dietary fibre and amino acids in young chickens, ducks and geese fed diets with high amounts of barley
TL;DR: The overall tract-faecal digestibility of total amino acids was evaluated on the level of 86% for all three species and indicates a substantial hind gut synthesis of amino acids.

Mesophilic anaerobic digestion of several types of spent livestock bedding in a batch leach-bed reactor: substrate characterization and process performance.
Silvio Riggio,Silvio Riggio,Silvio Riggio,Michel Torrijos,R Debord,Giovanni Esposito,E.D. van Hullebusch,Jean-Philippe Steyer,Renaud Escudié +8 more
TL;DR: Spent horse bedding, when compared to all the other types, appeared to differ the most due to a greater amount of straw added to the litter and a more frequent litter change, which means that this waste is well-suited for treatment in LBRs and that this is a promising process to recover energy from dry agricultural waste.
