TLDR
The acid-detergent fiber method (ADF) as mentioned in this paper is a fiber method based on cetyl trimethylammonium bromide to dissolve proteins in acid solution.
Abstract
The capacity of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide to dissolve proteins in acid solution has been utilized in development of a method, called acid-detergent fiber method (ADF), which is not only a fiber determination in itself bnt also the major preparatory step in the determination of lignin. The entire procedure for determining fiber and lignin is considerably more rapid than presently published methods. Compositional studies show ADF to consist chiefly of lignin and polysaccharides. Correlations with the new fiber method and digestibility of 18 forages (r = —0.79) showed it to be somewhat superior to crude fiber (r = —0.73) in estimating nutritive valué. The correla-

Leaf cellulose density as the key determinant of inter- and intra-specific variation in leaf fracture toughness in a species-rich tropical forest.

TL;DR: A large dataset of leaf fracture toughness from a species-rich humid tropical forest on Barro Colorado Island, Panama is presented, reporting both among- and within-species variation in relation to light environment (sun-lit canopy versus shaded understorey) and ontogeny (seedlings versus adults).

Influence of habitat, sex, age, and drought on the diet of Townsend's ground squirrels

TL;DR: It is concluded that preferred native shrub species provided a relatively constant food source under drought conditions, compared with perennial grasses and annual plants, and habitats dominated by them are unlikely to sustain viable populations of ground squirrels.

Enzyme-assisted aqueous extraction combined with experimental designs allow the obtaining of a high-quality and yield pecan nut oil

TL;DR: In this paper, the results obtained are the first data in the literature reporting the obtaining of pecan nut oil of high quality and yield using the enzyme assisted aqueous extraction.

Ammonia volatilization from tropical legume mulches and green manures on unlimed and limed soils

TL;DR: In this article, the rate and amount of ammonia volatilization from organic amendments, both incorporated (green manure) and unincorporated (mulch), were compared on both acid (unlimed) and limed soils.

The effects of low-, medium-, and high-oil distillers dried grains with solubles on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, and fat quality in finishing pigs.

TL;DR: Stepwise regression indicated that the oil (ether extract) content was the only significant variable to explain differences in energy content and nutrient digestibility in finishing pigs.
