Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic variant near IRS1 is associated with type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia.

TL;DR: The C allele of rs2943641 was associated with insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia in 14,358 French, Danish and Finnish participants from population-based cohorts; this allele was also associated with reduced basal levels of IRS1 protein and decreased insulin induction of IRS 1-associated phosphatidylinositol-3-OH kinase activity in human skeletal muscle biopsies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic variants of FTO influence adiposity, insulin sensitivity, leptin levels, and resting metabolic rate in the Quebec Family Study.

TL;DR: It is confirmed that genetic variation at the FTO locus contributes to the etiology of obesity, insulin resistance, and increased plasma leptin levels, as well as several obesity-related phenotypes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic risk factors for post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome following a waterborne outbreak of gastroenteritis.

TL;DR: Genes that encode proteins involved in epithelial cell barrier function and the innate immune response to enteric bacteria are associated with development of IBS following acute gastroenteritis, and four variants were associated with PI-IBS.
Journal ArticleDOI

LINE-1 methylation in visceral adipose tissue of severely obese individuals is associated with metabolic syndrome status and related phenotypes.

TL;DR: Results suggest that lower global DNA methylation, assessed by LINE-1 repetitive elements methylation analysis, would be associated with a greater risk for MetS in the presence of obesity.
