Journal ArticleDOI
Autosomal recessive colorectal adenomatous polyposis due to inherited mutations of MYH
Julian R. Sampson,Sunil Dolwani,Sian D. Jones,Diana Eccles,Anthony Ellis,D. Gareth Evans,Ian M. Frayling,Sheila Jordan,Eamonn R. Maher,Tony Mak,Julie Helen Maynard,Francesca Pigatto,Joan Shaw,Jeremy Peter Cheadle +13 more
TL;DR: Molecular genetic analysis showed that 25 families identified with neither dominant transmission nor evidence of APC mutation had biallelic mutations of the MYH gene, and data show that MYH polyposis can be transmitted as an autosomal recessive trait.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Randomized Placebo-controlled Prevention Trial of Aspirin and/or Resistant Starch in Young People with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis
John Burn,D. Timothy Bishop,P Chapman,Faye Elliott,Lucio Bertario,Malcolm G. Dunlop,Diana Eccles,Anthony Ellis,D. Gareth Evans,Riccardo Fodde,Eamonn R. Maher,Gabriela Möslein,Hans F. A. Vasen,Julie Coaker,Robin K. S. Phillips,Steffen Bülow,John C. Mathers +16 more
TL;DR: This clinical trial is the largest ever conducted in the setting of FAP and found a trend of reduced polyp load (number and size) with 600 mg of aspirin daily and RS had no clinical effect on adenomas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cancer prevention with aspirin in hereditary colorectal cancer (Lynch syndrome), 10-year follow-up and registry-based 20-year data in the CAPP2 study: a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial
John Burn,Harsh Sheth,Faye Elliott,Lynn Reed,Finlay A. Macrae,Jukka-Pekka Mecklin,Gabriela Möslein,Fiona E McRonald,Lucio Bertario,D. Gareth Evans,D. Gareth Evans,Anne-Marie Gerdes,Judy W. C. Ho,Annika Lindblom,Patrick J. Morrison,Jem Rashbass,Raj Ramesar,Toni T. Seppälä,Huw Thomas,Kirsi Pylvänäinen,Gillian M. Borthwick,John C. Mathers,D. Timothy Bishop,Alex Boussioutas,Carole Brewer,Jackie Cook,Diana Eccles,Anthony Ellis,Shirley Hodgson,Jan Lubinski,Eamonn R. Maher,Mary Porteous,Julian R. Sampson,Rodney J. Scott,Lucy Side +34 more
TL;DR: The case for prevention of colorectal cancer with aspirin in Lynch syndrome is supported by the results and the intention-to-treat and per-protocol analyses showed no effect.
Journal ArticleDOI
RHBDF2 mutations are associated with tylosis, a familial esophageal cancer syndrome.
Diana C. Blaydon,Sarah L. Etheridge,Janet M. Risk,Hans Christian Hennies,Rebecca Carroll,Vincent Plagnol,Fiona E. McRonald,Howard P. Stevens,Nigel K. Spurr,D. Timothy Bishop,Anthony Ellis,Janusz Jankowski,Janusz Jankowski,Janusz Jankowski,John K. Field,Irene M. Leigh,Andrew P. South,David P. Kelsell +17 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the distribution of RHBDF2 in tylotic skin is altered in comparison with that in normal skin, and immortalized tylosis esophageal keratinocytes have decreased levels of total epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and display an increased proliferative and migratory potential relative to normal cells, even when normal cells are stimulated with exogenous epiderm growth factor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomised placebo-controlled trial of rituximab (anti-CD20) in active ulcerative colitis
Keith Leiper,Kate Martin,Anthony Ellis,Sreedhar Subramanian,Alastair J.M. Watson,Stephen E. Christmas,Deborah Howarth,Fiona Campbell,Jonathan M. Rhodes +8 more
TL;DR: Rituximab has no significant effect on inducing remission in moderately active UC not responding to oral steroids, and is well tolerated in UC.
