Soil nematode abundance and functional group composition at a global scale

Johan van den Hoogen, +70 more
- 24 Jul 2019 -
TL;DR: High-resolution spatial maps of the global abundance of soil nematodes and the composition of functional groups show that soil nematode are found in higher abundances in sub-Arctic regions, than in temperate or tropical regions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Defensive chemistry of Senecio miser.

TL;DR: Eremophilanolides 1 and 2 and alkaloids 4 and 5 were found to be strong insect antifeedants, further supporting a proposed defensive role for these classes of compounds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diversity, occurrence, and life characteristics of natural entomopathogenic nematode populations from La Rioja (Northern Spain) under different agricultural management and their relationships with soil factors

TL;DR: EPN abundance and recovery frequency indicated that habitat type might influence EPNs occurrence stronger than seasonality with the intensity of agricultural management inversely affecting their distribution, and it is considered that agricultural management should be taken into account if EPN's are going to be used as biological control agents.
Journal ArticleDOI

Behavioral and sublethal effects of structurally related lower terpenes on Myzus persicae

TL;DR: Of the compounds tested, the natural product bisabolene could be a promising lead for future development of aphid control agents and application to intactCapsicum annuum leaves did not cause phytotoxicity, but did affect the insects' probing behavior by decreasing the probing activity and the number of intracellular punctures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of soil properties, heavy metals and emerging contaminants in the soil nematodes diversity.

TL;DR: The data showed that whereas nematodes with r-str strategy were tolerant, genera with k-strategy were negatively affected by the selected pollutants, and these effects diminished in soils with high levels of heavy metals given their adaptation to the historical pollution in this area, but not to emerging pollutants like PPCPs.
